First of all, Jon, can you talk us through the different products and services Triathlon provides?

Jon Wells, Sales Director of Triathlon Battery Solutions Ltd.

Our core business is supplying and servicing industrial batteries. We specialise in Lead Acid and Lithium-Ion batteries as well as offering a range of associated accessories including; chargers, watering kits, topping up trolleys and replacement battery tanks. Triathlon has one of the most impressive inventories in the UK and our nationwide delivery service ensures we can get most products, to you next day; sometimes even the same day for urgent orders. That even applies to full batteries! We also offer rental and financing options for those companies that want to preserve some capital whilst maximising cash flow.

In addition to supplying batteries and components, we operate a fleet of specialist battery and charger engineers. If you’ve got a problem with your traction battery or charger, these guys can fix it for you. All our engineers are directly employed, we don’t use sub-contractors, and every one of them must pass our thorough training program before going out on the road. This ensures our high-quality standards are met and our customers receive the best possible service.

What sets your company apart as a supplier in your category?

Our service. We pride ourselves on being able to provide all our customers the very best service. We work very closely with our customers to fully understand the needs of their business and to identify the most appropriate and cost-effective solutions to meet their requirements. We keep a very large and varied inventory at our facility in Manchester which enables us to keep lead times short. Our team of engineers are also able to react quickly to any call out requests and get your equipment back up and running as early as possible.

What business sectors are your customers in? Which industry sectors are growing fastest for you?

Our customers cover a vast array of sectors; we do work at airports, huge distribution centres, warehouses, factories and production plants; we even look after the batteries in a mine! As for growth we’re seeing a big increase in cold storage applications due to our advanced Lithium-Ion product solutions. The charging and discharging temperature range we offer is unrivalled, they can be opportunity charged, they’re available at any standard voltage and we can retro-fit them to fit most applications.

Which of your core products and solutions are you presenting on your stand at IMHX? Are you launching anything new at the show?

Our primary focus is going to be on our Lithium-Ion solutions and looking at total cost of ownership. We’re very passionate about Lithium and we want to show others what they could achieve with a lithium solution. Lead Acid batteries and charging systems will be making an appearance and we’ll also be showcasing the services offered by our engineers. As for new products we’ll be introducing MD LOADmanagement, which is a comprehensive battery management system that can increase your efficiency whilst simultaneously saving you a lot of money, and I don’t say that lightly, the savings are incredible. We’ll also have an interactive demonstration area on our stand where we’ll show you exactly how it does that, so come on over and have a look at what we have on offer.

Why should busy professionals from the warehouse and logistics industry take time out to visit your stand at IMHX?

What we really hope to show everyone that visits us at the expo is how we can add value to their business through our services and technology. We have some industry first products to showcase, but we’re keeping details of those under wraps for now, and we want to show off our service that I spoke about earlier, because that really is what defines us as a company. This is our first major exhibition in the UK so we’re keen to showcase everything we have to offer. Our stand is going to be great too, well worth a visit, so we encourage everyone to come over and see us, talk to us about our products and services and experience some great Triathlon hospitality.

What do you see as the main benefits to your company from being involved with IMHX?

The main advantage is we will get to meet a lot of existing and new customers in a very short period of time and all in the same place. We can also raise awareness of Triathlon’s products and services, and network with other organisations in our industry.

The last IMHX was 2016. How has your business changed since then?

The business today, compared to the business in 2016, is almost unrecognisable. Reacting to customer demand, we’ve hired more engineers than we had originally anticipated. We’ve seen our customer base, and order intake, increase dramatically and we’ve introduced new, state of the art technology throughout the business.

The main reason for our growth is our exceptional service and high quality, innovative products. Despite the huge growth we’ve experienced, we’ve continued to put our customers at the forefront of everything we do and we’ve worked hard to streamline our processes, to ensure our service continues to be the best and our lead times remain short.

Since 2016 we have also achieved a number of accreditations including the ISO9001 for Quality Management, ISO14001 for Environmental Management and the OHSAS 18001 for Health and Safety Management. We are also Safe Contractor approved.

Can you tell us about your major customer contract wins in the last three years? Do these represent new development areas for your company?

Over the last 3 years we’ve won a lot of new contracts with many world-renowned companies. We’ve really started to push the advantages of Lithium-Ion batteries and we’re winning a lot of contracts on the back of our superior Lithium-Ion products. Whilst the buzz around Lithium isn’t slowing, we still win a lot of traditional lead acid battery contracts. In fact, what’s great about Triathlon is, we specialise in both types of battery technology so we really can tailor our solutions to meet the needs of our customers.

Which other countries do you operate in besides the UK? Which overseas markets are most important for you?

Triathlon’s Headquarters are based in Germany where there are also a number of other branches. We also have facilities in France and the USA as well as ourselves, Triathlon UK. From these branches we supply markets globally.

It’s three years to the next IMHX. Where do you see your company going in that time?

Over the next 3 years we want to continue to grow the business, continue to innovate new products and continue to be a customer focused business. Over the last 12 months we have built a strong infrastructure to support our growth. This will enable us to process more orders, larger orders and more complex orders without affecting the service we take such pride in delivering. The next 3 years will be a very exciting time for Triathlon and we’re really looking forward to a very successful future.
