Welcome to the 15th June issue of Warehouse & Logistics News. Safety remains a central concern across logistics operations, with accidental driveaways continuing to present a serious risk in loading bays. These incidents occur when vehicles move before loading or unloading is complete and are particularly prevalent among rigid vehicles without air brakes, where traditional interlock systems may not be applicable. In response, Sentric Safety Group has introduced the Salvo Steering Wheel Lock, designed as a physical control measure to reduce the likelihood of unintended vehicle movement during loading activities.

In packaging and cold chain logistics, Macfarlane Packaging has entered into a partnership with eutecma to bring the ICECATCH and PROTECT cold chain systems to the UK market. Under the agreement, Macfarlane will supply eutecma’s modular PROTECT packaging system alongside ICECATCH cooling elements. The combined solution is intended for temperature-sensitive goods across sectors including pharmaceuticals, healthcare and food.

Oakland International has confirmed a new on-site operational arrangement involving Oddbox and Mindful Chef at its Redditch facility. The partnership will see Oddbox operating alongside Mindful Chef, with shared infrastructure and packing operations at the multi-temperature site. The move is intended to support growing demand while improving operational flexibility, with the businesses making use of shared facilities and low-carbon processes.

Elsewhere, ITW España has been addressing space constraints at its facilities near Barcelona, where storage capacity and material handling efficiency were being limited by the use of conventional forklifts. Following a site survey and operational review carried out by local materials handling dealer Politractor, alternative approaches were assessed. The review concluded that the Aisle Master articulated forklift from Combilift could enable narrower aisles allowing improved space utilisation and material flow within the warehouse.

In Canada, Société des Alcools du Québec (SAQ), the state-owned retailer responsible for the sale of wine and spirits in Quebec, is working with KNAPP to automate elements of its supply chain. The project includes the development of a new distribution centre designed to support next-day deliveries to stores, hospitality customers and online shoppers.

Stertil Dock Products has supplied and installed loading bay equipment at two newly built distribution units at VGP Park East Midlands. Delivered as part of a wider logistics development by Newlands Developments, with Glencar Construction acting as main contractor, the two units feature 15-metre clear internal heights and service yard layouts designed to support high-throughput warehousing and distribution operations.
