Professionalising the Profession

Over the past 12 months, CILT(UK) has implemented several key initiatives aimed at supporting its members and the wider sector. In March of this year, the Institute published a new strategy aimed at ‘Professionalising the Profession.’ The strategy underlines the institute’s charitable objectives, goals, and methods of delivery on how to strengthen the future capability of both our industry and institute.

A significant focus has been on enhancing professional standards and ensuring the workforce is equipped with the skills needed to navigate an evolving landscape. This has been achieved through a variety of new and updated training programmes, online courses, and qualifications that address current challenges, such as sustainability, digital transformation and supply chain resilience.

Membership and Inclusivity

Another notable development has been the expansion of the Institute’s influence through partnerships and collaborations. CILT(UK) has worked closely with government bodies, educational institutions, and industry leaders to drive policy discussions and share best practices.

Our annual conference and series of targeted webinars have and continue to serve as successful platforms for knowledge sharing, featuring keynotes from industry experts on trends like green logistics, autonomous vehicles, AI and smart technology integration.

Membership engagement has also been a top priority, with efforts to make the institute more accessible and inclusive. We have continued to champion our membership tiers and benefits to attract a broader range of professionals, from students to senior executives. This approach aligns with CILT(UK)’s commitment to fostering a diverse community that reflects the changing face of the logistics, transport and supply chain sector.

Looking Ahead: Future Plans

As CILT(UK) plans for the future, the focus will remain on keeping members informed about industry trends and policy updates. Upcoming initiatives include new digital skills courses and research on the impact of emerging technologies like AI, blockchain, and IoT on logistics and transport. The Institute also aims to strengthen advocacy, engaging with policymakers to emphasise the sector’s crucial role and ensure it gains appropriate recognition. As an institute we want to be at the forefront when addressing the skills gap within our sector, growing, educating and offering invaluable professional development to professionals within the industry.

Overall, CILT(UK) has had a transformative year, marked by a commitment to supporting professionals, fostering innovation, and preparing the sector for future challenges, with sustainability, technology, and advocacy at the forefront.
