Kai Tuomisaari, VP Corporate Sales of Cimcorp Group spoke to Warehouse & Logistics News.
What are your best-known products/solutions/services?
Our best-known products are automated picking solutions for fresh food, dairy and bakery produce, built on our proven gantry-based robotic technology. These systems are modular, standardised, reliable and future-proof, designed to simplify material flows and improve our customers’ profitability.
How do you think your industry sector is performing at the moment?
The automation industry is performing well, especially as investment in automation is becoming standard in Europe, North America and Australasia. While global political situations can cause some delays — such as caution in capital projects due to elections or conflicts — the overall trend is positive. Retail automation remains a stable and safe market because people need to eat every day. Despite some challenges, the demand for automation solutions continues to grow as businesses seek efficiency, economies and resilience.
How many markets are you in and what is your biggest market?
We operate globally across multiple markets. Currently, North America is our fastest-growing and most promising market, with significant potential also seen in Australia in the short term. In Europe, our operations are stable and consistent, supporting a wide range of clients in the grocery retail and tyre-manufacturing industries with high levels of service. In addition to headquarters in Ulvila, Finland, Cimcorp Group has locations in Canada, Germany, India, Spain and the United States, as well as representatives in Australia, China, Eire, France, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey and the UK.
In what ways does your company stand out from its competitors?
We differentiate ourselves through innovative solutions that are simpler, easier to maintain and more cost-effective in terms of lifetime investment. Our focus on modularity and standardisation allows for flexible and scalable systems. We aim to grow by acquiring more customers and expanding our scope around our core competencies. We foresee a future trend of increasing automation levels, including Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), mechanisation of manual picking and integration of material flows — especially in countries with high wage levels.
What are the major trends and developments affecting your category and your customers, and how are you responding?
Major trends include the increasing demand for automation due to labour shortages, the need for greater efficiency and speed in supply chains, and a growing emphasis on sustainability. Our customers face challenges such as rising wage costs, heightened consumer expectations for faster deliveries and regulatory pressures to reduce environmental impact. We’re responding by innovating to make our solutions more flexible and scalable. For example, our Dreamfield end-to-end grocery automation solution helps our fresh food customers to reduce the time taken to get products from the field or factory to the shelf. We offer order fulfilment automation for full crates, cases and singles, according to customer needs. Our automation drives efficiency for major retail brands including Edeka, Mercadona, Netto and Rewe.
What is your strategy for growth and success in 2025?
Our commitment to innovation and customer success has consistently led to year-on-year growth, and we expect this positive trajectory to continue, based on current market trends and our strong project pipeline. Our strategy involves expanding our solutions and customer base within our core areas. We aim to strengthen our expertise through continuous innovation and to enhance our offerings around our core competencies. By focusing on customer needs and market trends, we plan to increase automation levels, integrate new technologies such as AMRs and provide more comprehensive material flow solutions — particularly in regions with high labour costs.
Are you investing in staff training and skills development and can you give examples?
Absolutely. We consider our team to be our greatest asset and invest heavily in their development. We have ongoing professional development programmes across the company. Cimcorpers (our employees) actively attend industry conferences and training workshops. Internally, we have an online learning portal and collaborative projects to foster innovation and continuous learning across departments.
What work are you doing in the area of sustainability?
By their nature, automated systems and strategically planned intralogistics enable supply chains to become more eco-friendly. An inventory and distribution system that flows smoothly encourages long-term resilience, transparency and sustainability, while also reducing carbon footprint and – in grocery retail – fresh-produce wastage. As a company, we take sustainability, social responsibility and governance seriously. Last year, Cimcorp Group was awarded a Silver medal by EcoVadis, the globally trusted business sustainability ratings platform.
What sets your company apart from others?
What sets us apart is our unique blend of innovative technology, industry expertise and unwavering commitment to customer success. Our solutions are tailored to meet specific client needs while being technologically advanced and easy to use. We provide end-to-end support, from consultation and design to implementation and lifetime services. Our global presence, supported by our membership of the Murata Machinery Group, allows us to offer local support with global resources, ensuring reliability and responsiveness.
How future-proof and flexible are your solutions?
Our solutions are highly future-proof and flexible. We can automate existing distribution centres gradually without disrupting production or distribution. By improving efficiency and space utilisation, clients can expand their operations without needing new premises. Our systems are modular and scalable, allowing for replication in new facilities. Whether it is destined for greenfield or brownfield projects, our universal, proven technology applies seamlessly, enabling quick and effective implementation.
What exhibitions can we expect to see your company exhibiting at in 2025?
We’ll be exhibiting at LogiMAT in Stuttgart from 11 to 13 March (stand B31 in hall 1) and ProMat in Chicago from 17 to 20 March (stand S1231), as well as at Tire Technology Expo in Hannover from 4 to 6 March (stand 9049). We also plan to attend specialised conferences related to grocery retail and tyre manufacturing automation during the year.
How would you sum up your company in three words?
Reliable automation partner.
