Managing Director at Interroll Ltd
Hilton Campbell, Managing Director of Interroll Ltd spoke to Warehouse & Logistics News.
What are your best-known products?
Interroll is a go-to partner for materials-handling solutions. We supply conveyors, sorters, conveyor rollers, drum motors and a host of other products for optimising material flow in logistics and industrial applications. Whether it’s individual components or complete systems, we can handle the flow of goods from lightweight packages to fully loaded pallets. Our modular, platform-based approach means we can offer anything from standalone products to full internal logistics systems, according to your needs.
How do you think your industry sector is performing at the moment?
Because our customers span so many sectors, our performance tends to reflect what’s happening in those industries. Global challenges like the cost-of-living crisis and geopolitical tensions in Europe and the Middle East have added unpredictability, affecting consumer confidence and spending patterns in some regions.
That said, we expect demand for smart e-commerce solutions to maintain momentum, especially as businesses look to re-engineer their processes for greater efficiency.
How many markets are you in and what is your biggest market?
Our customers come from a wide range of industries, including logistics, e-commerce, food and beverage, automotive, airports, manufacturing, and courier services.
They rely on our solutions to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and keep goods moving smoothly. The versatility and adaptability of our solutions allow us to support a diverse range of businesses in achieving their goals.
In what ways does your company stand out from its competitors?
At Interroll, we see ourselves as more than just a supplier—we’re a partner. Our goal is to help customers unlock opportunities by providing tailored solutions and support at every stage, from planning to execution and beyond.
We pride ourselves on our financial stability, global presence, and track record of profitable growth. By working closely with our customers and understanding their challenges, we create strong partnerships that make tackling complex projects easier and more effective.
What are your most recent product innovations?
One of our standout recent developments is the AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) Top Module, which bridges the gap between stationary and robotic mobile conveying solutions.
It’s part of our Light Conveyor Platform (LCP) and includes a conveyor module optimised for weight, serviceability, and flexibility. The AMR adaptor ensures smooth docking and communication between the module and the robot, enabling efficient object handling.
Automation and robotics are essential for improving competitiveness and sustainability. Our technologies, from sorting to conveying systems, are designed to work seamlessly in automated environments.
We also provide control systems that integrate with warehouse management software, offering data transparency and insights like maintenance alerts and fault diagnostics. These solutions ensure customers can optimise operations and minimise downtime.
What are the major trends and developments affecting your category and your customers, and how are you responding?
Labour shortages and rising logistics costs are pushing businesses to adopt more automation. Industry 4.0 is revolutionising manufacturing and supply chains with technologies like AI, machine learning, and cloud computing.
At Interroll, we’ve been preparing for these shifts for years. We’ve invested heavily in R&D to stay ahead, creating advanced, future-ready and highly adaptable solutions that meet these evolving demands. Also, with property costs soaring, efficient use of space is critical. Our Layouter Tool helps OEMs and system integrators design optimised conveyor systems for their warehouses.
This tool allows users to visualise layouts, simulate material flow, and select the best components for their needs. It’s a game-changer for streamlining the planning process, and we even offer training to make sure customers get the most out of it.
What’s your strategy for growth and success in 2025?
We focus on long-term thinking, innovation, and strategic partnerships to maintain our competitive edge. By prioritising quality and customer confidence, we aim to stay two steps ahead.
We’re also investing in capacity and productivity to support sustainable growth. With cautious optimism, we’re positioning ourselves for success, even in uncertain economic times.
Are you investing in staff training and skills development?
Absolutely. Our employees are at the heart of our success. Training and skills development are integral to our culture.
We’ve invested heavily in product training and professional sales skills. Additionally, all leaders, myself included, are taking part in a new leadership development program. For us, continuous improvement is key—there’s always more to learn and new ways to grow.
What are you doing in the area of sustainability?
Internally, a big focus for us is using greener energy. In 2024, we doubled the amount of self-generated electricity we use and almost tripled our use of energy from renewable sources.
In addition, our solutions help customers make their material handling processes more energy efficient, mainly by unlocking zero-pressure accumulation functionality. With these systems, unlike traditional systems where motors tend to run continuously regardless of whether there is an item in transit, a series of sensors and separately activated motors hold items in zones that only operate when needed.
How future-proof and flexible are your solutions?
Modularity is fundamental to the way we approach material-handling and our platform-based approach allows customers to scale their systems up or down quickly and easily according to changing demands. As a result, our solutions are extremely flexible and future-proof.
How would you sum up your company in three words?
Quality, Speed, Simplicity.
