What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

I speak to a variety of different partners who typically haven’t come across a shipping solution like SmartFreight before and they are genuinely excited about the opportunity to work together which in turn cannot help but excite me.

Who’s inspired you most in your career?

It’s more recent that I find inspiration in many of the Ecommerce leaders in the industry who are almost in the same segment but have great stories of building up their offering from their kitchen table or garage to become some of the biggest powerhouses in the Ecommerce space.

If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

I’d be a fast moving and popular piece of tech, that isn’t in the warehouse for long, and in the hands of the purchaser and in use regularly to solve problems and make life more efficient.

If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

Nothing. Given recent events that have tested us all, I remain positive, healthy and looking forward to the year ahead.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?

At an event I sang a song with the assistance of helium, funny and embarrassing.

Who or what makes you laugh?

The SmartFreight Global team, on every video call I’m speaking to Aussies, Kiwis and even Spaniards, and their grasp of language is both unique and quirky at the same time. Ask an Aussie to say Data or Router.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can play the banjo, but shhh, don’t tell anyone!

Who would be your favourite party guest?

Robbie Williams, I know he’s a little older now, but he’s an entertainer and I’m sure he’d have a great story or 12.

What is the greatest luxury in your life?

Great friends, no explanation required.

What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

I do enjoy rather too much my little Audi, having a background of second hand cars, this gives me freedom and also starts every time.

Do you have any secret ambitions?

Rich and famous… no, seriously – healthy and happy a bit old school, but what’s it all worth without these?

What’s your dream holiday destination?

Anywhere warm, a bit clichéd, but our company is headquartered in Australia, so some time I’d like to go back there.

What are your three favourite movies of all time?

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Stranger than Fiction and Finding Nemo.

What is your favourite book of all time?

Cloudstreet, Tim Winton.

What’s your favourite pastime?

Nature walks.

If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

Retire and share with my family, oh and go on a bender.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?

Be ready for plenty of public speaking, or these days, video calls/webinars, work on your networking skills and be methodical in how you keep contact, even when the partnership is not going that well. If you are persistent and polite you never know, you may just crack through and bring great opportunities to your organisation.
