Outdoor lighting manufacturer C U Phosco is reaping the multiple benefits of an energy efficient lighting upgrade from Lumilow Lighting at its Yorkshire manufacturing facility The challenge; assessing legacy light C U Phosco manufactures outdoor lighting columns which are available in a range of applications, all from its manufacturing facility based in Cleckheaton, Yorkshire.

Like senior personnel at many other industrial sites across the UK, the forwardthinking team at C U Phosco have become increasingly aware of the energy-efficient, cost-saving benefits of the latest LED technology, and a majority of the lighting solutions they offer for street lighting is now LED. In the company’s Yorkshire factory, legacy lighting was causing several challenges.

The ageing 250W metal halide high bays were highly energy intensive and failed regularly, causing a significant maintenance burden. After analysing the options, C U Phosco called on industrial lighting specialist Lumilow to provide a solution offering excellent levels of light, combined with energy and cost efficiencies.

A key requirement for C U Phosco was to keep the factory floor running at all times during installation; in particular to avoid disturbing a crane which needs to remain operational throughout business hours.

The Lumilow solution Lumilow’s technical team looked at the options, and suggested a specification to deliver a step-change improvement in the quality of light, with the highest possible levels of energy efficiency.

To do this, high efficiency 13,000 lumen, 108W LED Low Bay fittings were specified to provide light over the machinery. The fittings achieve both excellent light levels and uniformity of light for the factory, where quality and attention to detail is crucial.

In addition, a new ‘last man out’ switch has been installed to further maximise energy savings. Overall, the new lighting was installed and commissioned by Lumilow’s partner Pro M&E; with care taken to ensure minimal disruption to business activities.

With this in mind, the factory was kept operational at all times, with major power works done out of hours.

“The right lighting for industrial environments is crucial for improved productivity,” explains Andy Chell, Managing Director of Lumilow Lighting.

“Staff are always the number 1 asset in any business, so whilst we all want to save energy, investment in quality lighting for staff will always pay dividends.

“Moreover, with this particular work I feel we’ve proven how beneficial upgrades can take place without disruption to production schedules. This is key for today’s businesses which need to operate on a ready footing at all times.

“We’ll be delighted to help similar firms with unique options to improve their specific manufacturing lighting setup.”
