What brought you to this industry?

I was working in an advertising agency but I always wanted to get involved in wider business decisions and growth, rather than working purely on the financial side. So, when LPR first came to the UK in 2000, it was the ideal opportunity to get involved in a business starting from scratch. We secured our first large contract in 2002 and have been flying ever since. I’ve really enjoyed being part of the business’ growth over the last decade.

What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

It is a bit of a cliché but, although I am finance-based, I really enjoy the opportunity I have to work across a far broader variety of areas throughout the business and to meet the wide range of people we work with on a day-to-day basis.

Who inspired you most in your career?

Now, not wanting to be cheesy, I would have to say LPR UK MD Jane Gorick. I have learned a lot about leadership qualities and dedication to customer service from Jane over the past 10 years.

If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

Obviously, I’d have to be the humble, red, LPR pallet. Not only because, like the pallet, I’m dependable and responsible but also because I’m precision-engineered and a quality product!

If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

I would probably have listened far more closely to those older and wiser than me and actually taken on board the advice they tried to give me.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?

I went out for dinner with a new colleague one evening and they resigned the following day. I’m hoping it was nothing to do with my conversation!

Who or what makes you laugh?

I love stand-up comedy, Live at the Apollo and the Canadian stand-up comedian, actor and writer Stewart Francis.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Well, it isn’t that hidden, but I can eat endless quantities of curry on a team night out!

Who would be your favourite party guest?

I’ve got two. I have always wanted to meet Robert Smith of The Cure and retail magnate Phillip Green would provide some interesting insight into business and tax affairs.

What is the greatest luxury in your life?

My children – Adam and Alice.

Do you have any secret ambitions?

To gain my private pilot’s licence. I’ve started lessons (sporadically), read a few books and not crashed any planes… yet!

What’s your dream holiday destination?

I’ve spent the last few years looking forward to the beautiful scenery in The Maldives – and am now counting down to the holiday of a lifetime!

What are your three favourite movies of all time?

You might notice a theme but any James Bond, Bourne Identity or Mission Impossible film.

What is your favourite book of all time?

There are some fantastic quotes in Robert Peston’s analysis of the economic crisis, ‘Who Runs Britain?’

What’s your favourite pastime?

I enjoy watching football, although less so this season watching Villa head further and further down the table.

If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

I’d go to New Zealand, complete my private pilot’s licence, buy a plane and fly off into the sunset.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?

Regardless of what part of the industry you work in, customer satisfaction is the key.
