What brought you to this industry?

I was completing my undergraduate degree in Marketing & Media Practices at the University of Bedfordshire, when a job was advertised on the university website for a part-time, short term Marketing Assistant. I worked here whilst studying for my degree and was employed on a full time basis following graduation.

What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

No day is the same at SEC, especially in the lead generation and marketing department! Whether it be dealing with customer enquiries & producing quotations, to completing case studies, updating the website, creating press release & dealing with all manor of communications for the company, we are striving to grow the company which we have successfully done since 2008. Every day is a challenge and that is exciting in itself.

Who inspired you most in your career?

The people whom who I work with. From the Managing Director to Adminstration Staff, everyone has a passion for the company & delivering the best possible service for our customers. It’s a cliché but I have been inspired by feeding off the experience & dedication of my colleagues.

If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

Pallet racking. I’m structured, strong minded and normally get straight to the point.

If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

I would have moved away to Uni for the ‘Uni experience’. However my liver, wallet & career is better off for studying locally. Without it, I wouldn’t be working here and be part of this great industry!

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?

We were at a corporate entertainment evening. We had just sat down for dinner and drinks, when one of the waitresses asked me for ID to prove my age. The whole table went silent and looked at me. Turned out it was a wind up from the MD! Needless to say our 30 guests found it hilarious. That or taking part in Movember and not being able to grow a moustache.

Who or what makes you laugh?

Office banter. Work wouldn’t be the same without it.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can make the sound of a dolphin with my cheeks.

Who would be your favourite party guest?

Keith Lemon.

What is the greatest luxury in your life?

My mountain bikes. Just one is probably worth more than my car!

What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

Sitting watching a good Romcom with my girlfriend!

Do you have any secret ambitions?

To run my own bikers & walkers café in the Peak District. Now it’s not a secret though, please don’t tell my boss.

What’s your dream holiday destination?

Whistler, Canada, in the summer! Can you see a biking theme here?

What are your three favourite movies of all time?

Saving Private Ryan, Scarface, The Collective: Seasons (it’s a biking movie!)

What is your favourite book of all time?

Enigma by Robert Harris.

What’s your favourite pastime?

It’s a close one between being out on my bike and enjoy a nice meal & coffee with my girlfriend.

If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

Invest in The Storage Equipment Centre Ltd to help exceed growth plans, invest in good worthy local causes and then enjoy the rest, riding my bike, experiencing new places and generally enjoying life!

What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?

Do your ‘apprenticeship’, i.e. don’t try and run before you can walk. Gain an understanding of the business you’re working in and learn. Be passionate about it, it really isn’t as boring as it seems!
