Double Queen’s Award winner for Enterprise in Innovation, Transdek, manufactures and supplies a comprehensive range of cost-effective loading bay equipment and goods lifts to service the movement of products at distribution centres, stores and factories.

The loading equipment specialist develops systems and solutions to address efficiency and cost management, which have become driving forces for developing supply chain improvements due to significant land and transport cost rises. Another important issue is health and safety, and all Transdek products are designed to include comprehensive safety features to meet both British and European standards.

Previously, the loading bay was given little consideration in relation to all these issues, other than as a basic means of moving product to and from vehicles.

However, with increasing competition in the business-to-business and business-to-consumer markets, along with spiralling costs, companies can no longer afford to consider the supply chain as an unavoidable and inconvenient cost – and that includes the loading bay.

“With typical savings of 40% over conventional single deck vehicles the rise of double deck trailers is set to expand significantly over the next few years,” comments Mark Adams, Managing Director of Transdek UK.

“The loading of these high-cube vehicles has spawned the development of a new branch of loading bay technology, double deck lifts, and has also influenced the design of conventional dock levellers, which have to service powered double deck vehicles.”

Not only does Transdek have a wealth of loading bay expertise, but the company also understands the requirements of the vehicles that the loading bays serve, and the challenges offered by taller and longer European and Urban specification trailers.

Instead of the traditional loading bay provider selling standard off-the-shelf equipment, Transdek actually listens to each customer, addresses their requirements and, if necessary, challenges past understanding and the common misconception that “we’ve always done it that way”. Transdek deliver fit for purpose future proofed solutions that will protect not only the customers’ workforce but also budget requirements.

The loading bay also has to meet more stringent demands on safety and efficiency – and where possible, bring value added benefits to the overall distribution network.

From a single bay fit out to complete distribution centres the process and attention to detail is the same. Transdek survey, problem solve, plan, design, test and deliver a solution to meet the customers’ requirements, backed up with a comprehensive customer support program.

Transdek’s Advanced Management System (AMS) is another innovation that provides statistics on loading operations, timings and payloads to enable better analysis and management of a company’s depots.

Interfaced with Transdek’s Load Weight Monitor, the AMS provides information on loading bay activity, vehicle payloads and plant operating status that can be streamed to designated recipients.

As well as driving efficiency, these solutions improve safety of operators and the company’s outstanding work in this area has been recognised with a Design 4 Safety Award (Automation). This was for its double deck and unique Vehicle To Ground (V2G) lifts, which are built with more safety features than any other comparable product.

Transdek has also been named as a SAFEContractor approved company for a third consecutive year, providing customers with independent accreditation of the company’s commitment to health and safety.
