Critical for the inherently hazardous lifting industry is that training nurtures best practice when it comes to working in safety. It is estimated that over 90% of all accidents result from human error, with the major contributors being carelessness, ignorance and incompetence. Ross Moloney, CEO of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA), encourages warehouse operators to look at LEEA’s unique and continually developing training offer.

A new business designed to streamline the sourcing of powered access platforms has launched, backed by leading UK powered access firm Horizon Platforms. Customers will gain access to hundreds of cutting-edge platforms, as well as all-electric, oil-free machines known for their efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

Two Konecranes reach stackers have just started handling containers at the Ultraport terminal in Puerto Angamos, a major port for Chile’s vital copper exports. The terminal is ramping up efforts to reduce emissions and chose lift trucks featuring Flow Drive, an innovation that uses a special transmission to cut fuel consumption without losing performance. Ultraport has been a Konecranes customer for over a decade, with an extensive fleet that includes over 30 reach stackers and several mobile harbour cranes throughout Chile.

The £700 million, state-of-the-art Protos Energy Recovery Facility located at Peel NRE’s energy hub in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire will convert 500,000t of waste into 49MW of clean electricity annually, helping drive the UK’s shift to renewable energy. LGH’s customer hired two 3-tonne electric chain hoists with a 45-metre lift height, equipped with power travel trolleys and radio remote controls to support the staircase installation process. The hoists provided the precision and efficiency needed to complete the installation, maintaining safety and keeping the project on schedule.

A&B Cranes installed an overhead crane and gantry steel work system for Teagle Machinery in Cornwall. For this project A&B designed and built a brand new gantry system to allow the cranes to run over the client’s conveyor. This consisted of 20 support columns and 18 tracks all to individual sizes to suit the client’s premises.

With lifting a crucial aspect of warehousing, it is imperative that staff go on training courses to ensure safety standards are upheld.
