SEMA Membership

At the heart of SEMA, are the members. Consisting of storage equipment manufacturers and suppliers, they aim to meet the highest safety and quality standards, a position they can demonstrate through independent audits of their systems and products.

In 2024, to make finding a SEMA supplier easier, we streamlined our membership categories to include:

• SEMA Approved Manufacturer – Full Members are industry-leading manufacturers of racking and shelving systems.

• SEMA Associate Members provide support systems and services that complement equipment supplied by manufacturing members.

• SEMA Approved Members Advanced and SEMA Approved Members supply racking and shelving equipment.

Training

A well-designed racking system installed, used and maintained according to SEMA Codes of Practice can deliver on safety. Yet achieving best practice is only possible when you implement training.

That is why SEMA courses cover the lifetime of your racking. The Storage Equipment Installers Registration Scheme (SEIRS) trains installers of storage equipment. Recently updated, installers must complete the SEIRS Foundation and SEIRS Diploma courses and pass an assessed element before they’re awarded their full SEIRS card. SEMA members commit to using SEIRS installers and to date over 500 installers are trained to diploma level.

Once in place, the SEMA Racking Safety Awareness Course (RSA) teaches end-user employees how to work safely with racking and equips them with knowledge to identify health & safety issues. It prepares a team member to conduct weekly visual inspections recommended by the HSE. The SEMA Approved Racking Inspector Training (SARI) is a professional qualification for those wishing to become racking inspectors and who want to conduct Annual Inspections in line with SEMA guidance. SARI inspections provide detailed reports covering all Health & Safety issues regarding maintenance and safe use of their storage systems.

Technical Committee

Technical excellence is central to SEMA’s mission. Our work is formalised into interlinked guidance that helps SEMA members and those managing warehouse operations adhere to safety standards. Our technical guidance provides a framework that covers the lifetime of your equipment including load notices, Codes of Practice and technical bulletins. Through links with leading bodies such as the BMHF and FEM, our work plays an important role in shaping racking best practices across the world.
