The landscape of plastic recycling in the UK is evolving rapidly, paving the way for a more sustainable future. Enter Plastic Mouldings Northern who are at the forefront of premier plastic material handling solutions with sustainability and green credentials at their core.

The Bishop Auckland based manufacturer has diverted an epic 284,340 kilogrammes of material from going to landfill in the period June 2018 – July 2023, and the certification awarded from Aim to Recycle recognises and cements their significant contribution to the environment by recycling waste materials over the years.

Nearly all types of plastics can be recycled, however, the extent to which they are recycled depends upon technical, economic and logistical factors.

Reconditioned Pallets

Globally, the efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote recycling are gaining momentum, and as one of the largest distributors of reconditioned plastic pallets in the UK the team at Plastic Mouldings Northern deliver a more cost-effective and yet still durable option for customers.

It has never been more important to recycle and Plastic Mouldings Northern are spearheading sustainability in the industry through their innovative approach. Plastic pallets need to be recycled through proper channels, and our dedicated plastic recycling facility ensures that old and discarded plastic pallets are recycled responsibly.

Our plastic pallets start their life as recycled waste which has been ground down into granules of plastic. These small granules of recycled plastic are then injected into a heated mould, creating a pallet. The output is an incredibly strong and robust plastic pallet, to handle all your storage and transport needs whilst also being sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Plastic Packaging Tax

Policymakers are enacting regulations to incentivise recycling, reduce plastic pollution, and promote a circular economy, with the aim of driving positive change and creating a more sustainable future for plastic recycling in the UK.

The introduction of the plastic packaging tax, which took effect on 1st April 2022, covers plastic packaging products that do not contain at least 30% recycled content and targets both UK producers and importers of plastic packaging. The tax also covers packaging that is already “filled” when imported into the UK.

Businesses that qualify for the tax must pay £200 per metric tonne of plastic used in the packaging.

Providing an economic incentive for businesses to use recycled plastic material in their packaging, the aim is for the tax is to create a greater demand for recycled plastic material and therefore stimulate increased levels of recycling and collection of plastic waste.

With 95% of products hitting exemption from Plastic Packaging Tax, Plastic Mouldings Northern is your one stop solution for packaging solutions.

Recycling in Practice: Honda

When the Honda car factory in Swindon closed down Plastic Mouldings Northern secured the contract, this involved clearing out their redundant plastic packaging which included over 5000 folding pallet boxes as well as plastic pallets and euro containers previously used in their supply chain. Upon clearing the site the team sent 25 tonnes to regrind, saving over 200 tonnes of plastic waste and recirculating it back into many other industries and extending the life span of many products.

The reconditioned approach really homes in on a customer’s green, clean and carbon neutral pledge and is especially a perfect fit within the EV Automotive sector. Unlike new pallet boxes which create carbon emissions during production the reconditioned options are reworked, extending their life span making them much better for the environment, in turn reducing the overall carbon footprint.
