FMH Conveyors International Ltd, based in Corby UK, have always taken pride in being the premier provider of BestFlex and PowerFlex flexible conveyors which are primarily used for loose loading and unloading of transport vehicles. Enhanced by our BestReach telescopic conveyors and BestConnect rigid reconfigurable conveyor systems, we have built a solid business supplying the distribution industry with materials handling equipment, found mainly around the dock doors of companies, for handling parcels, tyres, bags or other manually loaded items. FMH Conveyors operates on a global scale in collaboration with our US offices. We also work with distributors and resellers throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Martyn Kingston, Technical Director and Jon Richmond, General Manager spoke to Warehouse & Logistics News.

WLN – As a leading supplier in the Conveying and Sortation category, what has the last year been like for your business? How about for the rest of your sector?

The last 24 months have seen unprecedented growth for our business. We believe the growth in e-commerce has led to an increase in the number of parcels shipped and, in turn, a requirement for our products. From casual conversations with competitors and customers the same applies to most of our sector.

WLN – What are your best-known products and services?

Best Conveyors was primarily known for producing premium quality BestFlex and PowerFlex flexible conveyors. For the last 12 years we have also been ramping up our manufacture of BestReach telescopic conveyors for heavy use environments and high throughputs. The latest product to be added to our portfolio is the BestConnect range of mobile reconfigurable conveyors.

WLN – What makes you the first choice supplier in your field?

We make some of the most robust conveyors of their type in the market. We also offer products that are tailored to meet the specific needs of each customer. We like to sell solutions rather than just products.

WLN – What changes have you made to your core offering in the last year? What new products and services have you introduced?

Driven by market needs we have greatly increased our field maintenance and service capabilities in the last year or so. We can now offer regular PM services and, with the right package, a two hour national response time and 24hr emergency call centre.

WLN – What industries are your customers in?

Our customers are predominantly in the parcel handling business or manufacturing companies with similar requirements.

However, with our BestConnect product range we can service any conveyor needs in any factory or warehouse.

WLN – How do your products and services help customers become more efficient, greener or work safer?

In most cases loose loads are more cost effective to ship than palletised loads or cages. To efficiently handle loose loads the use of PowerFlex or BestReach conveyor is required. This can reduce the unloading time of a 40ft trailer from an average of four hours to less than one hour, including mixed SKU sortation.

“FMH Conveyors are a global manufacturer of conveyors specifically for loose load handling and manual sortation.”

Martyn Kingston – Technical Director.

FMHWLN – What were your company’s biggest achievements in the last 12 months?

In a word: Growth. FMH saw a 54% increase in turnover in the last 12 months.

In the last six years we have grown over 300%.

WLN – Are you currently investing in the business, taking on staff or going into new markets or countries? If so, how’s it going?

In the last six years we have seen a 200% increase in headcount and have formed a number of strong partnerships with third party service providers. As with all change, it has been difficult but very enjoyable. Maintaining growth is always a challenge so our management team has worked tirelessly to develop strategic plans to ensure our continued success.

WLN – What are you doing to bring on new talent and raise skills levels in your company?

Due to our recent growth and also our projected growth we have recruited strongly in areas of sales, controls, service, engineering and production. Whilst we tend to recruit experienced personnel we are providing industry specific training and participating in commercial training courses. We recently hosted training courses which included attendance by personnel from customers.

WLN – Will you be exhibiting at any major trade shows in the coming year?

We have plans to exhibit at LogiMAT in Stuttgart, IMHX in Birmingham, Manutention in Paris, and Empack in Stockholm. Some of these will be direct and some through our EU distribution network.

WLN – What other big news from FMH Conveyors can our readers look forward to reading in Warehouse & Logistics News in 2016?

Keep an eye out for some new product ideas being launched this year along with some innovations and adaptations to our existing product range.
