2015 has been a particularly successful year for industrial door and loading bay manufacturer Hörmann. The company has seen a strong performance in the doors and curtains category, with increased sales, new products and significant appointments over the last 12 months.

The year started with the unveiling of a range of new industrial door products at the Munich BAU exhibition in January.

Among the key items on show was a new laser-based motion detector and door operating system called the Scanprotect.

With a robust, weatherproof design, the technology is ideal for external use, and enables fast and targeted door automation.

Another product launched at BAU was the DD roller shutter – an innovative design featuring a direct drive operator. Available for a wide range of Hörmann curtains or grilles, the DD system benefits from a flexible, slimline operator that can be adjusted for almost any fitting situation.

An extra accessory package for the DD roller shutter, for use with Hörmann’s Decotherm curtain, was also launched this year. With a powerful FU operator, the DD S6 shutter benefits from soft-start, soft-stop technology and can perform up to 30 door cycles per hour. Hörmann’s popular Light Grille is integrated into the side guides to ensure safe operation even at high closing speeds, while L-pads on the curtain’s interior minimise noise and wear when the door is in use.

Another highlight for Hörmann in 2015 was its inaugural Gala Dinner, which the company hosted at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole in March.

The event included a series of presentations and fine dining for key distributors and esteemed guests. Attendees were offered the opportunity to take part in a question and answer session with senior members of staff, during which the panel discussed their respective departments’ commitment to on-going improvement and explained how they plan to support dealers into 2016.

Hormann-Standard-Logo---LargeHörmann has also expanded its UK team with a number of new appointments over the past 12 months. In a notable addition to the projects department, Kevan Barker took up the new role of Projects Installation Manager.

Kevan brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked at automatic and industrial door manufacturer Gilgen UK for over a decade. Working alongside the other 10 members of the projects team, he now supervises the on-site management of new Hörmann door installations, as well as ensuring that every part of the process is completed to the highest possible standard, from the moment an order comes in until the work is signed off.

More recently, Hörmann announced that its doors have been added to the NBS National BIM Library, for use by architects and other construction industry professionals in the specification of buildings.

Building Information

Modelling (BIM) allows specialists to understand a building through the use of a digital model. Manufacturers create BIM objects, i.e. 3D digital versions of their products, which then go into a vast database for construction professionals to download and use in their projects.

Hörmann’s sectional and high-speed industrial ranges are now accessible from the library, with digital versions of its rolling shutters and grilles currently in development. The manufacturer will be looking to extend its BIM range in the new year to include its loading bay technology and hinged doors.

To round off a particularly positive year for the manufacturer, Hörmann has just announced the results of its year-long fundraising partnership with Alzheimer’s Society. Smashing its original target of £30,000, Hörmann has now secured close to £45,000 for the charity.

Funds have been secured through donation boxes at dealers’ offices, sales of pin badges, and a host of events and activities. Both management and staff have embraced the partnership, not least Managing Director David Newcombe, who took on the Great North Run for the charity just days after completing a 350-mile cycle challenge.

The manufacturer is hoping to add even more to this total in the run up to the festive season through the Hörmann Big Christmas Shop. Staff will be able to order festive items from the Alzheimer’s Society, with the charity receiving 150 per cent of the purchase price.

Hörmann will cover the cost of each item bought, while staff will contribute half of the price, all of which will be donated.

It has been a busy year for Hörmann and 2016 already looks set to continue in the same vein. Recruitment is underway for a number of new posts within the service team and some exciting warehouse projects are in the pipeline.
