What’s the most exciting thing about your job?
It may sound like a cliché, but I find the variety of the logistics industry exciting. Every day produces new challenges and opportunities.
Who inspired you most in your career?
Without hesitation my Father Bob Terris, he founded the business and is the company Chairman.
If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?
A safety hat, you know you’ll always get ahead.
What brought you to this industry?
Meachers is in my blood. I was washing trucks at the age of 9 to earn pocket money. Working part-time whilst studying. It was a forgone conclusion right back then.
If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?
I’m lucky to have been able to get a fantastic grounding in all aspects of this business. Many good people including my father have mentored me; I don’t think you could get a better foundation. I wouldn’t change a thing.
What’d your favorite pastime?
Golf is a passion. I’m an avid Southampton FC fan and have always supported the Saints. I also enjoy following motor sport, particularly Formula One.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?
Many years ago I was ridiculing the owner of the Robin Reliant parked outside the office. I was soon to discover it belonged to one of our newly appointed traffic operators.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I’m a qualified chartered accountant.
Who would be your favourite party guest?
Marilyn Monroe. She’s fascinates me.
What is the greatest luxury in your life?
My apartment in one of the City’s most iconic buildings.
If you won the Lottery, what would you do?
I certainly wouldn’t give up working, but I would indulge in following the Formula One circuit around the world.
Who or what makes you laugh?
Russell Howard is one of my favorite comedians.
Do you have any secret ambitions?
To drive a Formula One Car.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Barbados.
What’s your favourite music album?
Nirvana’s Nevermind. It reminds me of a great time in my life.
What’s your favourite movies?
The Wizard of Oz.
What’s your favourite book?
James Patterson and Tom Clancy are my favourite authors.
Who or what do you detest the most?
Traffic jams, both personally and for the business. I also detest rudeness.
What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?
Have an appetite to learn, work hard and show dedication to your job and recognise that logistics in more than moving boxes – It’s a profession!
