W H Barley (Transport & Storage) Limited, first commenced trading in 1970, founded by our Chairman Peter Barber, and was borne from the existing family business of distribution within the Retail & Wholesale sector. The business grew from the need to utilise the existing delivery fleet more efficiently and the provision of a full load service to the local business community.

Over the years, W H Barley has adapted to the needs of its customers, and has invested wisely in a modern fleet, premises and technology, to compete in an ever-changing industry.

Peter Barber was instrumental in W H Barley becoming an active member of the Palletline Plc Distribution System, as well as the Transport Association. Both organisations have been powerful allies in aiding growth, enabling W H Barley to expand the geographical capabilities of the business, and to offer its customers important service enhancements.

Our Equipment

With a fleet that ranges from small vans up to 44 tonnes gross curtain-siders, W H Barley, are not only capable of providing the right vehicle for each and every job but, are rightly proud of the high standard of modern equipment we operate.

Our vehicles are known nationwide not just because of the striking and memorable decals but, largely for the professionalism of our drivers and the high quality and condition of our vehicles. We believe that part of providing the best service is utilising the best tools available.

As well as the high standard to which our vehicles are maintained, we also operate a renewal program – replacing vehicles before their efficiency or reliability is threatened, ensuring our high service levels are maintained.

Our Technology

W H Barley is committed to a programme of continuous technological development, in line with the evolving requirements of both the organisations customer base and industry developments.

In line with this commitment, W H Barley continues to extend its service enhancements alongside customers’ own initiatives. Our use of Electronic POD and Pallet Track & Trace are designed to further enhance client-supplier interface, industry standing, and our competitiveness going forward.

We provide these service enhancements without charge as they offer our customers improved efficiencies mainly linked to operational load planning and communication.

Storage

W H Barley operates a secure 100,000 ft2 purpose built warehouse facility at our 5-acre site, which has excellent access to the national road network.

Transport

Our transport services include;

• Next Day & Economy delivery of smaller consignments via the Palletline Network nationwide except Scottish Highlands & Islands.

• Groupage Services – For larger consignments when either economy or deadlines are your key considerations.

• Full Load Services – Nationwide delivery of full loads on our comprehensive modern fleet.

• Dedicated Services – For smaller consignments, which are time critical, we offer dedicated vehicles, which will collect and deliver your goods within agreed timeframes.

• Distribution Services – Ideal if your requirement is to supply numerous recipients with small consignments across the UK. We can tailor-fit our solution to your supply chain ensuring harmonisation between the services we supply and the requirements you or your customers have.
