WLN – What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

WLN – Who has inspired you most in your career?

In my previous role in the HR department at United Utilities my manager, Jack Armstrong once said to me: “Elizabeth, don’t come to me with problems, come to me with solutions.” This really inspired me to use my initiative and trust my instinct, which has stood me in very good stead ever since.

WLN – If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

I would definitely be a Fork Lift Truck – because it is always busy making sure production can continue. Without the Fork Lift Truck everything would gradually grind to a halt.

WLN – If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

I am enjoying the new challenges I have taken on since becoming Managing Director here at Brysdales, so I wouldn’t do anything differently – I would just do it sooner.

WLN – What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?

Sending a very private email to a group distribution list instead of the relevant individual – it was literally as I pressed the send button that I realised what I had done!

WLN – Who or what makes you laugh?

The Chairman of our Group and my business partner John Green. Anyone who has met him will agree that there is never a dull moment in his company.

WLN – Do you have any hidden talents?

Painting faces on reproduction china dolls!

WLN – Who would be your favourite party guest?

Richard Branson. He is a highly principled innovator, an excellent businessman and is inspirational across many fields.

WLN – What is the greatest luxury in your life?

Time! It is something we take for granted yet making time to plan and develop in the context of today’s society is so difficult when everything is required yesterday.

WLN – What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

Scallops and Champagne of course!!

WLN – Do you have any secret ambitions?

To ride an elephant at dawn through the Chitwan National Park in Nepal around the foothills of the Himalayas looking for tigers! My aunt and uncle did this when they spent a year travelling the world and I have been determined to do it ever since.

WLN – What’s your dream holiday destination?

Oregon on the Pacific North West coast of America.

WLN – What are your three favourite movies of all time?

The Full Monty, Calendar Girls and The Saving of Mr Banks.

WLN – What is your favourite book of all time?

Hmmmm… I am such avid reader and there are too many to mention!

WLN – What’s your favourite pastime?

Reading.

WLN – If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

I would buy a lovely big plot of land and design and build my dream house.

WLN – What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry?

It is a vitally important industry and is very interesting….but it’s definitely not sexy!
