Helping Impact Handling bring Konecranes heavy-duty lift trucks to where they should be in the market – at the front!
WLN – Who has inspired you most in your career?
A long-since retired Sales Director at the former Lansing Henley forklift company, who once gave a young man great guidance.
WLN – If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?
Valuable goods!
WLN – If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?
I would have used my heavy truck experience to become involved with international business at an earlier age.
WLN – What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?
When I was working in South Africa I called and asked for a ‘Mr Lion’ on a number kindly given to me by a colleague, only to find eventually I was calling Johannesburg Zoo.
WLN – Who or what makes you laugh?
Michael McIntyre and comedy classics like Dad’s Army and Faulty Towers.
WLN – Do you have any hidden talents?
I think I have used them both.
WLN – Who would be your favourite party guest?
The band Madness, and Prime Minister Winston Churchill. That would certainly be a dinner to remember!
WLN – What is the greatest luxury in your life?
That has to be the time my partner Lorraine and I spend on our holidays together.
WLN – What is your favourite guilty pleasure?
I would admit to enjoying a fine Armagnac, but that’s probably not secret any more!
WLN – Do you have any secret ambitions?
I would love to fly the Imperial Airways 1930s route from London to Durban.
WLN – What’s your dream holiday destination?
A golf resort in the south of France, no question.
WLN – What are your three favourite movies of all time?
I wouldn’t describe myself as a movie fan, but Blazing Saddles always comes to mind.
WLN – What is your favourite book of all time?
That’s easy: A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle.
WLN – What’s your favourite pastime?
Playing golf. There’s nothing more relaxing.
WLN – If you won the Lottery, what would you do?
Well, apart from buying a large villa on a golf resort in the south of France, and creating my dream holiday destination myself, I’m not entirely sure – but I’m sure I’d have fun finding out!
WLN – What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry?
I would advise anyone looking to find a rewarding career in the industry to find a niche that suits them and enjoy it, as you only live once.
