Vanguard Self Storage, one of the UK’s leading independent self-storage companies, has received planning permission to convert a vacant office in Maidenhead into its newest branch. The approval marks Vanguard’s tenth location in England and expands its ever-growing portfolio of high-quality storage facilities across the country.
The 50,000 sq. ft. office building on Norreys Drive will be transformed into a 660-unit self-storage facility offering 40,000 sq. ft. of net lettable space. The refurbishment is expected to take six months and will provide secure, versatile storage solutions designed to meet the needs of businesses and residents in Maidenhead.
In line with Vanguard’s other premises, the new Maidenhead store will feature a historical centerpiece as a focal point for the site. A de Havilland Vampire aircraft, currently being restored, will be displayed in the atrium, the second in Vanguard’s collection, following the first installed at the Bath branch, which opened earlier this year.
The facility is expected to generate additional employment opportunities in Maidenhead, with broader indirect employment benefits for local businesses, underscoring Vanguard’s commitment to supporting local economies. Experience from Vanguard’s Bristol store indicates that such sites can support more than 100 jobs in related businesses.
“Maidenhead is a natural next step for us,” said Will McCullagh, Managing Director for Vanguard Self Storage.
