What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

What I really like is that no two days are ever the same. I thoroughly enjoy the variety of projects that I get involved with and all the different people I meet and work alongside.

Who has inspired you most in your career?

That’s easy – without doubt both my mum and dad. They both possessed a great work ethic, and whilst my dad was not the most talkative of people his little pearls of wisdom would always be listened to intently.

If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

A strange one, but a tape gun – it gets everywhere, and no warehouse would be without one.

If you had your time again, what would you do different?

I guess I’m lucky as I can honestly say that I am happy with how things are turning out. As with everything in life I passionately believe you only get out of something what you put in.

What’s your favourite pastime?

That would be taking our dogs out for a long walk. We have two Springer Spaniels Marvin & Scooby (named by our children) and find that a good long walk with them and plenty of fresh air certainly helps to put everything into perspective.

Do follow a sport or support a team?

Yes, football is my sport of choice. Some would say ‘unfortunately’ I follow and support my local football team Stoke City. I often think if only I had been born fifty miles further up the M6, I would have had the choice of both Manchester, and Liverpool clubs. You don’t change your colours though, and some of my fondest memories are going to the games as a young boy with my dad, no matter what the result.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened in your career?

That would be when I asked a now ex colleague of the Hörmann Group which sales area he covered, only for his reply to be “the whole of the UK, given that I am the Managing Director.” I took the positive from it, given he always remembered me whenever we meet.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Well, my partner tells me I’m a great snorer, although I’ve never heard myself so its news to me. Does that count?

Who would be your favourite party guest?

It would have to be the comedian Micky Flannigan.

What is the greatest luxury in your life?

My health. With so many families having been affected by the events over the last two or three years it certainly makes you concentrate on the important things in life.

If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

At the moment I would probably pay my gas and electric bill! With luck there would be a little left over for a few luxuries.

Who or what makes you laugh?

That’s got to be our children.

What’s your dream holiday?

There are so many places I would like to visit, but I have to say that my favourite holiday so far has been to Dubai. I’d like to visit America, as it’s somewhere I’ve not been yet.

What’s your favourite music album?

That very much depends what type of mood I’m in. I have a fairly eclectic taste in music, and I am currently trying to build my vinyl collection.

The Smiths – Louder Than a Bomb has to be my all-time ‘go to’ album, although a recent purchase by Self Esteem – Prioritise Pleasure, is a really good listen.

What’s your favourite movie?

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is my all-time favourite, which reminds me I’ve not watched this film for a few months.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?

A simple piece of advice which was given to me is always taught to treat everyone with the same respect as you would expect. It’s true that you never know when and where the people you meet in your career will end up.
