Leading Nordic logistics company, Nowaste Logistics, has become the first company in the world to install an AutoCase™ from AutoStore™ at one of its warehouses. The innovative solution, launched in autumn 2025, has been supplied and empowered by Swisslog.
“AutoCase™ is a solution that is as simple as it is ingenious. It eliminates time-consuming manual work and increases efficiency, speed, and storage density in one of our highly automated warehouses,” says Patrik Johnfors, Head of Solution Design & Implementation at Nowaste Logistics.
The warehouse handles large volumes of apparel arriving from Asia in cartons. On arrival, these cartons need to be buffer stored before being decanted and picked within the facility’s AutoStore system.
“Inbound deliveries of a new collection for the upcoming season take place many weeks before outbound deliveries begin. The inventory also needs to last throughout the entire season, which can be up to six months. Today, we manage this by buffer-storing the cartons on pallets in pallet racking and replenishing or decanting them into the system as goods are shipped. This requires extensive manual buffer handling,” explains Johnfors.
With the high-density AutoCase™ solution, Nowaste Logistics can instead efficiently store cartons directly within the AutoStore™ system using AutoCase™ upon receipt. The cartons can later be retrieved either as full cases for shipment to the customer or routed to a picking station for individual order fulfillment.
“We are very pleased that Nowaste Logistics is the first AutoStore customer to pilot AutoCase™. They are a company that embraces innovation, is eager to test new solutions, and is not afraid to challenge established ways of working to improve their operations. At Swisslog, we see the AutoCase port as an important step forward as it expands the range of applications that can be automated with AutoStore technology. By enabling automated case handling directly within the AutoStore system, it supports new workflows and helps customers achieve an even higher level of automation, efficiency, and operational flexibility,” says Giulia Colombi, Swisslog CEO EMEA.
The solution was installed at the Nowaste Logistics warehouse during the summer and will now be tested with various carton types and sizes before going into full operation.
