The rise in e-commerce orders, driven by the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting lockdowns, has meant an increased number of returns. With greater demand for fulfilment there is a considerable desire for mezzanine floor solutions. Now that more heavy automated equipment is used in warehouses, strong mezzanine floors are increasingly required.

Congratulations to Twintec, who carried out repairs and reinstatement works to a 18,500 square metre existing floor slab at a distribution and logistics facility in Peterborough which was to be occupied by a new tenant. Twintec were appointed to design repair works that would reinstate the 15 year old floor slab to the same tolerance and specification as originally built. The package of works included removal of all rack anchor bolts and infilling; removal of the existing guide by wire system and surface repairs; the replacement of localised sections of armoured joints that had been removed as part of the tenant’s works; infilling of aisle paths that had previously been ground out by the tenant; and the application of Sika Proseal sealant to the floor finish.

ASG Services has been supplying physical barriers, line marking and safety signs to warehouse operators as part of its core services for 25 years. These have helped to ensure the safe segregation of people and machinery within many warehouse operations. One of ASG’s specialisms is Shot Blasting, which is a durable and versatile method of floor marking favoured by many customers for speed of installation and lifespan. Specified for facilities with busy FLT movements, shot blasting can be installed on most floors, making it suitable for old and new warehouses or distribution centres which need cost-effective floor marking, but where long-lasting durability is not essential.

CG Flooring Systems has given a polished finish to the floor in the public areas of a new warehouse facility for its client, a leading supplier of outdoor and activity-based lifestyle clothing. Looking for an enhanced appearance for the concrete floor in the reception, linking corridors and staff canteen areas, a polished concrete finish was chosen. After listening to what the client was looking for, on site samples were carried out before selecting CoGri Commercial Finish.

Many companies have increased their focus on business resilience since the pandemic. Supply chains have been restructured in order to reshore operations. This has driven demand for new warehouses, and with them strong mezzanine floors, in the UK and Europe.
