Over the last 18 years Goplasticpallets.com – The Responsible Plastic Pallet Company – has had some weird and wonderful requests from customers asking whether the company’s plastic pallets and pallet boxes can be used for some quite unusual applications.

The ‘can do’ attitude of the team at Goplasticpallets.com is one of the company’s assets, and explains why they have and continue to supply such a diverse range of clients, across so many sectors. Here we recount a couple of the company’s most recent memorable experiences.

Nesting pallets

Earlier this year Goplasticpallets.com donated seven of its heavy duty Qpall 1210 HR 5R pallets for use in the Rutland Osprey Project which aims to return the previously extinct bird of prey to England. The plastic pallets were used to provide artificial nest platforms to attract breeding pairs of ospreys back into the Rutland area. To make the platforms, the central webs were removed from the pallets to make a socket for the pole. The nest was then built by fixing twigs to a weld-mesh base, which in turn was fixed to the pallet. After installation the nest was finished by adding moss, grasses and other nest material. Dave Vandome from the Rutland Osprey Project said: “The plastic pallets are just perfect, and make a strong and durable platform for the nest.”

World’s largest kite

Last year Goplasticpallets.com was approached by the Al-Farsi Kite team who holds the Guinness World Record for the largest kite flown. The Kuwait-based crew were looking for packaging suitable for transporting its 1000+ square meter kites around the world.

As the kites are incredibly delicate, wooden pallet boxes were not an option, as they are nailed shut which creates splinters that can catch on the fabric. The team also required a product that would withstand the harsh handling conditions – tipping, climbing on and exposure to the elements.

The Al-Farsi Kite team found their ideal pallet box in the company’s GoPalletBox 1311S 3R which as well as having a huge capacity of 1400 litres, is completely smooth inside, making it the gentle giant the record-breaking kite team needed.

What’s next?

Goplasticpallets.com has supplied pallet boxes to several zoos this year for storing animal food, as well as the Eastbourne Fishermen who are using their boxes for their large fishing nets and other equipment. Watch this space as the company’s plastic pallets will also be appearing very soon on a cinema screen near you!
