18 in 2018, eighteen silver-C awards for 2018 National Courier Awards. Rattle the clappers, lightshow and fanfare for best-of-the-best in Express final-mile courier.

Ten thousand words of nominations for the 22nd year of the National Courier Awards, with five corporate wins, treble-three for Hermes with DWP ‘Wheels to Work’. Eighteen in eighteen for the individuals. A big four-wheel group marked five wins for the vans ‘Year of the Van.’

City of London Corporation took green win, David Jamieson Safety Award went to O’Donovan’s. Lifetime achievement dished out to Adrian Smith as Express sector rattled their clappers for the final mile.

The sold-out gala courier industry event organised by the Institute of Couriers and hosted at the Institute of Directors celebrated excellence. Five corporate awards, Services to Industry and eighteen-for-eighteen – eighteen individual silver Cs for 2018. This was the year of the van with a stage of five four-wheelers. Best of the best saw two two-wheelers, contract and office at the highest level in final mile.

Representations from courier companies large and small, regional and national, an independent panel of judges without sponsorship to recognise the very best of the best in final mile Express, drawn from ten thousand words of nominations. For the sector, by the sector, to recognise their very best in an ocean of recognition for a full house at the IoD.

Sat at tables signposted by postcodes, laden with Curly Wurly bars, as winners were greeted by final mile clappers that rallied the room as loud as loud can celebrate. Light show spectacular went louder than louder as fanfare trumpets opened the moment of individual silver C wins that moved a sector to tears of celebration in a wave of motivation. The world tweeted, eighteen for eighteen 2018 prestigious Courier ‘Silver C’ awards in the twentysecond year of the National Courier Awards.

Triple-take for Step Change awards goes to Hermes for DWP with Wheels to Work national

IOC president Lord Falkland opened the awards, ‘Twenty-two years of the National Courier Awards, Express is an evolving sector, the awards have driven recognition of excellence. Vice President, John Hayes CBE, ‘Tonight we see recognition of excellence from start to finish.’ David Jamieson, corporate safety award; recognition for a sector focused on safety goes to O’Donovan’s.’ Hon Fellow, traffic commissioner Sarah Bell, ‘five van winners to a Services to Industry award for Adrian Smith from Swift and a third step-change win for Hermes working with Job Centre Plus and the wheels to work programme. 2018 an exceptional year of motivation for the exploding final mile express sector.’

IOC chair, Carl Lomas ‘Continued retail shift from High Street to home delivery has brought the challenge to our sector to deliver customer chain excellence in numbers larger than we have ever seen before. Those at the forefront here this evening have been recognised by our independent panel of judges as the best of the best in final mile. Our Services to Industry winners have then stepped up on stage to welcome a new fellow.

Step-change award was taken in 2015 by Hermes for Sunday delivery, 2016 Hermes returned to win again with order by midnight for next day delivery on the Next Contract. 2018 Hermes return for a third win in stepchange with same day delivery for working with DWP Job Centre Plus on the wheels to work programme. Big green win for City of London Corporation who took corporate silver C, working with all our neighbours to provide charging infrastructure. Vince Dignam, ‘We all feel very privileged to have won this prestigious award and being made so welcome.’

IOC CEO, Tracey Worth, invited senior academics to the stairways of the IoD for an announcement on the Express manager level six Trailblazer degree; a qualification for our nextgeneration leaders. Logistics hotspot geography was all covered; Heathrow, University of West London, East Midlands, University of Derby, University of Staffordshire and back to London with University College.

All sensations covered as lightshow dancers and trumpet fanfares moved the gala evening of celebration from corporate wins to the individuals at our front line; recognition for the best of the best two and four wheels, contract and office. The people in our sector who make final mile, last mile, express courier happen at its very best. Tears of motivation at the tables with decades of service and last mile moments that delivered client success and saved lives.

Military distinctions drew a standing ovation, RLC Lt Colonel Paul Vickerman, standing to be a fellow for the 2019 House of Lords gowning, read the citation for WO2 Toni Hill from 29 Regiment Royal Logistics Corps ‘has overseen the entirety of BFPO Germany…an exceptional professional.’ The floor of fellows, members and couriers rose to their feet with a final ovation for the 2018 National Courier Awards, best of the best, final mile, last mile excellence in express courier for 2018.
