For the individual whose outstanding personal and professional skills are reflected in an efficient operation, with high levels of productivity, and a highly motivated team

DONALD GILLIES, BULLET EXPRESS LTD

Since joining Bullet Express from Sainsburys some three years ago, Donald Gillies has overseen the growth of the company’s storage facility from a 2000 pallet capacity unit to a stateof- the-art site with space for 15,000 pallets. “As we have expanded, Donald’s experience and guidance has been essential,” says Bullet Express’s David McCutcheon.

David McCutcheon adds: “Donald has standards that he will not fall below, regardless of how busy we are. He cares passionately about every pallet and his attitude has transmitted to our staff. From day one Donald has shown great skill and dedication to his role which is why we feel he has earned the right to be UKWA Manager of the Year 2018.”

CHRISTINE NEWMAN, IMPORT SERVICES LTD

In almost 18 years with Import Services, Christine Newman has risen from a warehouse operative to manager of the company’s Nursling facility. Roger Loveless, operations director at Import Services, says of Christine: “Christine is a great example of upward mobility. She is our most respected senior operational manager and runs our most challenging site to a high standard. She has my complete trust and respect as, indeed, she has from a very early stage in her career with us.”

ANDY FURR, JOHN LEWIS

John Lewis’s semi automated NDC at Magna Park is the largest and most complex operation in the business. At over two million square feet, the site holds 12 million units of small products and hanging garments and, at peak, handles throughputs in the region of four million units per week.

Andy Furr became DC manager at the facility some nine months ago since when he has navigated a course through John Lewis’s toughest peak trading period yet and driven a number of key initiatives to ensure that the site remains a centre of excellence within both the business and the industry.

John Munnelly, head of operations at John Lewis, is fulsome in his praise of Andy. He says: “I can honestly say Andy is the best operator I have had the pleasure of working with and I couldn’t ask for a better, more rounded or committed right hand man.”
