We are a confident business that is growing to keep pace with the increasing demand from our customers – customers whose needs evolve rapidly and who need a supplier offering innovation, durability and flexibility.

Scott Jameson, Managing Director at Spaciotempo speaks to Warehouse News about the forthcoming IMHX exhibition.

Warehouse & Logistics News – First of all, Scott, as Spaciotempo’s MD, what is your role in the company from day to day?

With a very capable management team in place, my role is to look after the growth and future development, to meet customers, forge partnerships and solve problems (when they exist!)

WLN – Can you talk us through the different products and services Spaciotempo provides?

We offer customers solutions to problems caused by lack of space. The solution might be a temporary building or canopy. It might include project management, planning services or maintenance visits – it really depends on how much support the customer needs. We can do the whole thing, and take that weight off the customer, or we can simply install the structure.

Our aluminium-framed structures come in widths from 5m up to 30m and unlimited lengths. In terms of height, we can provide up to 13.177m.

Greater width is offered by “gutterlinking” buildings together, so really the sky’s the limit.

WLN – What kinds of businesses in what industry sectors are your solutions aimed at? What specific needs do they target?

Our solutions are wide ranging for many industry sectors but play the biggest role in manufacturing and warehousing industries. Because of a growing lack of affordable warehouse space, businesses often find themselves having to operate disparate storage facilities, wasting time transporting goods between sites. Spaciotempo provides immediate solutions to major problems like rapid growth and requirements for new space, the need to access and transport goods more quickly, and to reduce fulfilment times. Temporary structures make it easy and affordable for businesses to transition new business models, scale up following periods of growth, and improve logistics processes.

WLN -When was your business established? Who owns the company now? Which other countries do you operate in besides the UK?

Spaciotempo was incorporated in the UK in 1972. Our manufacturing base is in Picardie, Northern France, where we make our unique “clear & open span” frame. Spaciotempo operates in UK, Ireland and throughout Europe. The company is fully owned by international events and exhibition experts, GL events.

WLN – What sets your company apart as a supplier in your sector? Why should busy professionals from the warehouse and logistics industry take time out to visit your stand at IMHX? What is your overall message to visitors?

There are many players in this market who make many claims for their product, their history, and their geographical reach. What sets Spaciotempo apart is that we do “what it says on the tin”. We are the only UK temporary building supplier to manufacture and install our own stock – without relying on “unknown” subcontracted labour. This means we have an active role in R&D, innovation and training to ensure we are always providing the best temporary structures. The quality of our structures stands scrutiny. We encourage potential customers to visit us at our Uttoxeter head office, and see our Operational base for themselves.

So at IMHX, our message is for visitors to come and meet our team on stand and allow us to show them our quality – and just why many of our buildings are in use for decades!

WLN – What will visitors be able to see on your stand at this year’s show? Which of your core products and solutions are you presenting? Are you launching anything new at IMHX?

This year we will have our biggest stand yet, and have designed it in a way that it will give visitors the best opportunity to experience the versatility, durability and effectiveness of our temporary solutions, within the confines of an exhibition hall! We’ll also be handing out our latest white paper, looking at the role our buildings play in industry and why they are becoming more and more popular.

WLN – Is this your first time exhibiting at IMHX? If you’ve been there before, what are you doing that’s different to last time?

We’ve been at IMHX since 2010. This year, more than ever, we are letting our product speak for itself.

WLN – The last IMHX was in 2013. How have your customers’ needs changed since then? What are the biggest pressures your clients face these days? How are you addressing these?

The biggest change is probably a nationwide lack of warehouse and storage facilities. The boom of eCommerce and demands on manufacturers for just-in-time manufacturing has changed the way businesses store products. Today, businesses want on-demand warehousing and can’t justify long term tenancies for permanent warehousing. Our solutions enable businesses to scale on demand without incurring high overheads.

WLN – Can you tell us about your major customer contract wins in the last three years? Do these represent new development areas for your company?

Our number of long-term customers has increased over the last few years – working with customers to keep pace with the changing needs of their business. This has been the case with Marstons Brewery, Kuehne+Nagel, and Husqvarna to name a few. The versatility of our product, and our full project management service has been showcased by work for customers such as Nottingham University, Pinewood Studios, and Peugeot Citreon, however our main focus still remains the manufacturing and transport sectors.

WLN – How do your products and solutions address today’s increased emphasis on safety and environmental impact in warehousing and logistics? Will you be highlighting this aspect of your offering at the show?

Keyline

We were recently awarded ISO14001, which demonstrates our commitment to environmental responsibility.

Because our temporary buildings are modular, by nature of their design and construction they help to reduce energy and resource use, minimise waste and cut carbon emissions. Our in-house installation teams are highly trained and accredited to key H&S practices and work closely with customers to ensure safe, secure and environmentally-friendly installations.

WLN – Thanks to technology, suppliers to this industry are getting much faster with their responses to customer enquiries. How soon after IMHX can visitors to your stand expect to receive a ‘live’ quote for using your solutions in their businesses?

Visitors will be able to discuss their needs on stand with our experienced team and receive a “live” quote almost immediately. We will also attend site to carry out a site visit – we believe that although a quick response, or “instant quote” is attractive to customers, there is no substitute for meeting customers on site, and providing an informed quotation based on real need.

WLN – And finally, it’s three years to the next IMHX. Where do you see your market sector and your company going in that time?

Spaciotempo has seen sustained growth over the last three years, and we anticipate this continuing over the next three, servicing the changing storage needs of current and new customers.

We are glad to be able to act as a constant in a fluctuating market and offer peace of mind in uncertain times.
