Students from across the UK put their business skills to the test at the national launch of Business on the Move on 27th June, where sponsor, Calor Gas (Calor) was on hand to help ‘fuel’ the fun!

Calor-Business-on-the-Move-launchLaunched at the National Union of Teachers’ headquarters in London, Business on the Move is an educational board game designed to teach children about business and the UK’s supply chain. Supported by over 50 business sponsors, including Calor, Marks & Spencer, Tesco Express and Jaguar Land Rover, the game teaches the players how to run a business that must respond to customers’ orders, moving products to the UK by a combination of air, sea, rail and road.

Commenting on the launch, which saw young students testing their business acumen, Keith Higginson, marketing manager for Calor Gas said: “The UK and international supply chains are literally the backbone of the country. They ensure that products get from A to B, that shelves are stocked, or in Calor’s customers’ case that tanks are kept full, and that daily business runs round the clock. But when you are at school, there’s no real insight into the vital role that business plays in keeping the country moving.

“As a leading supplier of liquified petroleum gas (LPG), we are used to dealing with the complexities of scheduling deliveries to customers in non-mains’ gas areas, where LPG is often the only source of fuel.

“That’s why we were keen to get involved in the initiative, helping young people learn more about business ‘behind the logo’ and share some of our insight in to how an effective supply chain operates.

“The day was a great success, with the students showing some real initiative when it came to making some tricky business decisions to ensure goods arrived in time.”
