Leigh Brown – Edwards Transport

His colleague, Chris Green, nominated Edwards Transport’s Leigh Brown for the Warehouse Manager of the Year Award. Chris said of Leigh: “I have never come across someone with a management style like Leigh’s – he is very approachable and is like a friend to the staff. He has high standards and expects us to deliver a high level of service for all of our customers. However, while he drives us hard, he is always willing to roll his sleeves up and get stuck in within the warehouse if things are very busy.”

Graham went on to praise Leigh’s attitude towards health and safety and the well-being of his staff, his efforts to reduce Edwards’ CO2 emissions by introducing new energy efficient lighting and the training schemes he has devised and implemented which, in Graham’s words,  have enabled staff “to become stronger employees and individuals.”

He is described as a great ambassador for Amethyst whose first class understanding of DC management has contributed greatly to Amethyst’s Fradley site achieving a £1.6million bottom line profit during 2010/11.

Steve Nelson – Boughey Distribution

Steve joined Boughey Distribution in 2009 and has quickly established himself as a popular and highly competent member of the Boughey team.

“Steve’s management style is collaborative and he understands the importance of involving the team in his decisions,” said Boughey’s Warehouse Director, Bernard Murphy. “Since Steve joined there has been a significant improvement in the efficiency of operation and productivity within the warehouse and the team has become more motivated.”

Steve’s achievements since arriving at Boughey include updating the company’s health and safety processes – he has introduced a number of initiatives or changes which have led to an overall decrease in accidents. Furthermore all accidents, incidents and near misses are fully investigated and any recommendations put in place.

He has also successfully worked to develop greater internal communications within the team and to improve staff attendance records.
