Transdek, a Yorkshire based loading equipment manufacturer, has received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in this year’s honours for its groundbreaking developments in truck loading systems.
The award recognises the company’s continued innovation in the production and installation of modular hydraulic lifts to service double deck trailers, which carry up to 67% more product than conventional HGV’s. This has enabled transport operators to make significant cost and environmental savings, with one of the UK’s largest supermarkets chains alone claiming a reduction of 12 million road miles travelled in 2010. It is the second time Transdek has won this prestigious award.
The lifts, which are designed for loading goods to and from fixed double deck vehicles, provide unrivalled benefits that have increased the viability of double deck trailer deliveries across a wide range of sites and industry sectors. Transdek’s focus on the development of pre-built, surface-mounted, modular double deck lift systems, has seen unit install times cut from as much as 3 months to as little as a single day.
Major customers benefitting from Transdek’s innovation include Tesco, which has been able to convert its top 100 stores for deliveries from double deck trailers, Boots and Halfords.
“It’s great news that our policy of continued investment in developing lifting solutions that can deliver substantial cost savings, environmental improvements and operational benefits has been recognised with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation,” said Mark Adams, managing director of Transdek.
“Over the last 15 years we have used our expertise and commercial experience together with extensive research and development, and patenting of the resulting intellectual property, to establish Transdek as a market leading innovator. It also puts us in a strong position to capitalise on the significant growth opportunities that exist.”
Transdek’s innovative designs have significantly improved the reliability, flexibility and cost effectiveness of double deck lifts, enabling transport operators to overcome many obstacles and inefficiencies conventionally associated with double deck loading. Transdek’s designs avoid the requirement for any pre-dug pits or other costly civil engineering and also make it easy to relocate from site to site.
As a direct result of Transdek’s innovations, the company estimates its customers have made overall savings in the region of £720 million over the last 15-years, as well as delivering significant environmental benefits with reduced road miles and CO2 emissions.
Additional innovation in this field has seen Transdek produce the first ever vehicle to ground (V2G) loading system to service double deck trailers at flat-floor loading bays, and a Load Weight Monitor (LWM) to ensure safe load distribution, which is especially important for high-sided double deck vehicles.
Transdek also won the Queen’s Award for Innovation in 2003 in recognition of the company’s work in increasing vehicle load volumes and enhancing transport efficiencies through the development of an internal vehicle loading system.
As one of this year’s winners of a Queen’s Award, Transdek will be visited by a royal representative to present the award and is invited to attend the Queen’s Reception at Buckingham Palace in this, Her Jubilee Year.
