skk-7600-polonia-cup2Executive Summary

Motorbikes and quads are built for adventure and riding in challenging and difficult conditions. These machines consist of numerous parts – including nuts, bolts and other small items – that have to be precisely assembled. To meet the demands of a growing business, Polonia Cup has implemented a new warehouse management solution based around the Honeywell Dolphin 7600 mobile computer. As a direct result, they have simplified their warehouse system, which now operates quickly, accurately and more efficiently.

Company Overview

Polonia Cup sp. z o.o. with their head offices in Tarnowskie Góry, Poland, is an official importer of motorbikes, quads, scooters and accessories (for example the brands POLARIS, HYOSUNG and DAELIM), manufactured by companies such as Motul, Michelin, Nolan, Kenda, Givi, Nissin, and Tecmate.

The Challenge

Faced with a constantly growing turnover of goods, the management of Polonia Cup decided to improve their warehouse operation. Among the major challenges were processes that were too slow with a lack of accuracy in the stock picking process, as well as lengthy shipment preparation due to difficulties in identifying small and very similar parts.

Polonia Cup also required a solution that was compatible with the Symfonia Handel software suite used in their warehouses.

They opted for a tried and tested technical solution in the field of automatic identification, and contacted Systemy Kodów Kreskowych SA (SKK), a Honeywell Strategic Business Partner. SKK, based in Krakow, is a system integrator who has been in operation in Poland since 1992. They are a leading company in the field of IT system integration for automatic identification and marking, bar codes, RFID and voice-operated systems.

The Solution

Having analyzed the situation at Polonia Cup, SKK proposed the SKK-SMART PRO system which not only supports 100% of the existing warehousing processes carried out, but could also fully integrate with the Symfonia Handel management system. The solution consisted of marking both storage locations as well as all goods with bar codes and implementing mobile terminals to track warehousing operations.

The multitude of different components is now easy to identify thanks to bar code technology. To complete the system side of the upgrade, Digit-AL – a supplier of add-ons for the Symfonia management system – prepared a series of new applications that allow the warehousing activities to be registered and tracked.

As part of the roll out process, the systems integrator also trained the personnel in the operation of the two types of hardware.

“The implementation process was finished in May 2008,” said Bogdan Ptak, Administration Manager at Polonia Cup. “After testing the solution in practice, we added additional functionality and processes to the software based on the suggestions of the warehouse personnel. The application met our requirements. The possibility of supporting a large goods register covering about 80,000 product indexes is of vital importance to us.”
