fast.jpgWhen Preston-based H Parkinson Haulage Ltd won a new customer for a two year deal they needed pallet racking capacity quickly. Operations Manager Allan Barnes was looking for a four week turnaround from placement of order to positioning pallets in the racking. “We needed better utilisation of the warehouse space,” explains Barnes, “LINPAC Storage Systems was chosen for the contract because they were competitive and they were prepared to move more quickly on the job than the competition who had leadtimes of 6-7 weeks. I had an appointment with the LINPAC salesman in the afternoon and I received the drawings by email later that evening. That impressed me.

“Because the company manufacture in the UK they were able to meet our four week deadline and the racking installation started two weeks from placement of order. I had no issues whatsoever with the entire process.”

LINPAC has installed a total of 2,224 pallet positions in part of the 163,000 sq ft warehouse which is adjacent to the bulk store. There are two routes into the racking, one near the entrance to the building and a second transfer aisle which lines up with the way into the bulk storage area. These maximise the speed of pallet storage and picking.

The racking is configured into a narrow aisle storage system suitable for an articulated Aisle Master truck. Product is stored up to four levels high with each separate storage location clearly identified; H P Haulage operates a comprehensive stock control service for its customers.
“On average we have 20 lorries a day arriving here at Preston,” says Barnes, “however, when it gets busy there can be 45 a day and we can still average a 20 minute vehicle turnaround. We are proud of the haulage and warehousing service we offer our customers and there’s no doubt that it is an advantage to be able to offer both bulk and racked storage.”
