Vanden Recycling has opened a new plastic processing facility in Whittlesey, just minutes from Peterborough and the A1/A14 East of England logistics hub.
The facility has been developed to provide logistics, warehouse and retail organisations with a new outlet for waste and redundant plastics that results from the transport, storage and sale of groceries and FMCGs from retail stores and e-commerce operations.
Vanden is already well known in the UK for its nationwide collections and recycling of scrap plastics, primarily from manufacturing, distribution and retail industries. Vanden markets these back into the manufacturing sector, both in the UK, Europe and export markets, as a valuable and sustainable material feedstock.
The new Whittlesey facility means that Vanden now has a centrally located plant that can safely recycle redundant and damaged crates and tote bins used by clothing retailers, supermarkets and fresh fruit and vegetable distributors. The plant can also accommodate and securely handle LDPE and PP film, plastic pallets and redundant stock.
For the logistics and warehouse sector, the central location of the facility is critical. It puts Vanden in close proximity to many logistics hubs where the waste plastic is produced. This means the number of recycling miles travelled can be reduced, making the process more cost and carbon efficient.
The plant has also been set up to ensure that all plastics are treated to meet the highest standards required by manufacturers worldwide, so maximising their value. This approach ensures that the supplier receives the best possible price for the materials supplied.
