Rising demand for in-person events and peer support from women across the UK logistics sector has prompted the industry’s leading networking group to evolve into a Community Interest Company (CIC). Women In Logistics UK (WiL), which has been part of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) for the past seven years, has returned to its roots as an independent organisation, cementing its future by securing CIC status.

As a regulated form of social enterprise, CICs operate to benefit communities rather than shareholders and publish an annual report detailing their impact.
WiL founders Ruth Waring and Clare Bottle, who first established the group in 2008, say their plans for the not-for-profit include extending its popular events programme and providing more training and mentoring opportunities for women.
Ruth, a logistics and compliance consultant, explained: “We set up Women in Logistics 17 years ago to provide much-needed connection for like-minded women working in a male-dominated industry.
“Today, the interest we have from women across the sector wanting to make real life connections is stronger than ever. And, as always, we very much welcome men to join us as our allies.”
“As well as connections, friendships and inspiration, Women in Logistics has facilitated countless business deals, client referrals, new jobs and promotions over the years.
“We have often been described as a ‘force for good’ which just makes me so proud.”
In 2025, WiL will continue to run its popular free ‘Netwalking’ events across the UK – typically a five-mile weekend walk followed by lunch. These meet-ups are free and open to all women and men working in logistics.
The group will also publish a free monthly e-newsletter and share regular updates on LinkedIn.
In addition, WiL is launching a new paid membership, costing £120 annually, that includes priority access to events, half-price entry to the annual conference and exclusive access to regional networking dinners. To celebrate the launch, the first 100 members will be awarded ‘Founder Member’ status and receive a £20 reduction in annual fees, an opportunity to vote for Steering Group Members, exclusive discounts on training and recognition on the Women in Logistics website.
WiL is also inviting support from logistics and supply chain businesses committed to the professional development of women.
Co-Founder Clare, who is also Chief Executive of the UK Warehousing Association, said: “We’ve already received significant interest from forward-thinking companies that recognise how vital women are in driving business success.”
She added: “There are many ways for business to support us. In addition to sponsorship and advertising, companies can offer their facilities as event venues or provide speakers who will provide value to our audience.”
