What’s the most exciting thing about your job?
It probably sounds very cliché, but I love seeing our customers and potential customers, it is the greatest part of my job. The opportunity to listen to and learn from our customers always stimulates new thoughts. Getting out into the field and meeting people beats sitting behind a desk or doing video calls.
Who has inspired you most in your career?
My managing director when I worked with Collect+. It was a pivotal time of life and career for me, and I learnt so much about nurturing people to build a successful team, as well as recognising my own skills and weaknesses, of course. I still quote him today.
If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?
I think I’d be a conveyor belt, because I’d be always moving things along!
If you had your time again, what would you do different?
I’d have definitely spent more time reading more books during my early years. It was always hard to find quality time to do so.
What’s your favourite pastime?
I really enjoy road cycling. It’s great for keeping fit and healthy and also a brilliant way to get outside and enjoy spectacular scenery.
Do you play a sport, follow a sport or support a team?
I have tried the racket sport padel recently, which seems I’m not alone in doing so. I think most of the population seems to be giving it a go. To be honest, I like all sports, with anything on two wheels catching my attention the most.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened in your career?
A kestrel landed on my head at a team building event. There was blood involved and it wasn’t a great look or experience!
Who would be your favourite party guest?
It’d have to be Ricky Gervais. I enjoy the honesty in his humour – it’s refreshing.
If you won the Lottery, what would you do?
I’d travel to see as many countries in the world as possible and wouldn’t look back.
Who or what makes you laugh?
I can literally find humour in most things, when it’s appropriate!
What’s your dream holiday?
I would start in Cape Columbia in Canada and would travel down to Ushuaia in Argentina, taking in parts of Canada, the US, Mexico, Columbia, Peru, Bolivia and Chile along the way. Can you imagine the people you’d meet along the way? I would then travel right the way back up again.
What’s your favourite movie or Netflix series?
I’m probably showing my age here, but it has to be the movie Carlito’s Way.
What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?
To jump in feet first. Logistics is a great space to be in and can provide so many different opportunities, many of which people won’t always immediately recognise. There’s the opportunity to work across many different sectors, to work around the world and in an array of different job roles. Getting stuck in is a great way to find out what’s on offer and where the sector can take you.
