Looking to move away from hand-strapping, automate your end-of-line processes, or simply want to replace or upgrade your existing strapping/wrapping machines?
Since 1966, Mosca has become a renowned family-run business helping customers worldwide take care of their bundling, transport securing, and product protection needs.
Richard Booth, Business Development Manager at Mosca Direct Limited speaks to Warehouse & Logistics News.
What are your best-known products/solutions/services?
Mosca is an exceptional and innovative manufacturer of cutting-edge strapping machines.
Our iconic blue machines are renowned worldwide for unmatched quality, reliability, and efficiency. For three consecutive years, Mosca has proudly held the title of Germany’s best Mechanical Engineering company, awarded by Focus Money.
We are dedicated to producing high-quality strapping materials in both PP (Polypropylene) and PET (Polyester). Our PET strapping is crafted from 100% recycled materials and can be fully recycled even after use. Embracing the future, Mosca has evolved into a producer of intelligent, end-of-line packaging solutions with a steadfast commitment to ‘Nonstop Performance’ – our benchmark for unwavering excellence.
We recently expanded our portfolio by adding the impressive Movitec brand of ring wrappers and continue to make substantial investments in our ‘TechCentre’ to assist customers in evaluating and enhancing their transported load security.
Which industry sectors are your customers in and which ones are growing fastest?
We have solutions for most industry sectors; whether it be e-Commerce Fulfilment, Corrugated, Mail Order, Pharmaceuticals, Construction, or sectors such as Food & Beverages which demands fast, dependable, high-performance, hygiene-focused packaging solutions in adverse environmental conditions.
As many companies increasingly implement complex automation to improve efficiency due to staffing challenges, we are now serving a broader range of customer sectors than before.
All industries appear to be experiencing growth in automation, so we are collaborating more closely with integrators and providing comprehensive end-of-line solutions, going beyond just strappers and wrappers, to meet the demands of today’s market.
What are your most recent products and innovations?
Our latest products are the Saturn range of ring wrappers, under the brand name of Movitec. They can be integrated into any production line. We continue to focus on developing the next generation of intelligent, end-of-line packaging solutions.
Standout features are reliability, efficiency, and value, underpinned by Mosca’s “One Service” concept, including local storage of parts and UK-wide field-based engineers, all fully trained on every Mosca & Movitec machine.
We have several innovations, such as corner board protection, which can accommodate up to six sizes of corner boards for companies manufacturing various pack and pallet sizes. Our range of wrappers can handle 45 to 160 pallets per hour to meet the needs of our customers.
What are the major trends and developments affecting your category and your customers, and how are you responding?
The main trend we are observing is a shift towards planning for and implementing fully integrated systems at most customer sites. Even smaller customers are realising the advantages of investing in production lines that are future-proofed for expansion and automation, fitting within their budgets.
This shift is particularly noticeable in the food and beverage industries, but we are also seeing it to varying extents across all the industries we work with.
Rather than proposing only individual machines, we are now being asked to provide solutions for the entire end-of-line as a comprehensive project. This means that we must plan with the customer for further phased automation over the course of a few years.
Can you tell us about any recent customer contracts and how you helped the customer meet their challenges?
We’re installing new machines every month.
We recently supported a customer who was experiencing significant parts and service issues with an ageing pallet press and pallet wrapper. Their existing equipment no longer suited their needs, it had become outdated, and they were experiencing frequent unsupported breakdowns.
We installed the pallet press first, as that was their main concern, and then the wrapper. Both machines worked seamlessly with the existing systems in place. The customer praised the support, competence, and responsiveness of our engineers, expressing that they would not consider seeking assistance from any other company. They are confident that if there are any issues we will have the parts and support available for them as quickly as they need them.
What’s the latest news from your company?
We have a reference site for our Saturn wrappers that is open for all customers or potential customers to visit. It is based at a globally renowned and entrusted manufacturer of corrugated products. This site supplies directly to the food industry. We are also in discussions with the site to hold exploratory trials of alternative, sustainable consumable materials.
Are you investing in staff training and skills development?
Staff training and development is a top priority at Mosca Direct, and our cultural values are at the core of everything we do. We are committed to supporting apprentice engineers and younger engineers in gaining industry-recognised qualifications and valuable experience. Most of them choose to stay with us and later contribute to training the next generation.
Are you taking part in any major trade shows? Can you tell us what you’ll be exhibiting there?
We will be exhibiting at the PPMA show from September 24th to 26th. Our stand will be the largest we have ever had at the show, featuring a Saturn S8 pallet wrapper capable of wrapping up to 160 pallets per hour, along with corner board protection, a couple of strapping machines, and a preview of our new hand strapping tool. Visit us at Hall 5, Stand A100 and say “hello”!
