Total Interiors Direct has successfully implemented a bespoke storage solution for the National Museum of the Royal Navy’s Conservation Project.

Total Interiors Direct are proud to announce a successful partnership with the National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) to provide bespoke storage solutions for the HMS Victory conservation project.

Background to the National Museum of the Royal Navy

Established in 2009, the National Museum of the Royal Navy brings together historical naval museums across the UK, offering a comprehensive narrative of the Royal Navy’s diverse branches throughout history. The museum oversees the conservation of HMS Victory, a significant ship with historical importance, serving as both a commissioned vessel in the Royal Navy and an open-to-the-public attraction.

HMS Victory Conservation Effort

As part of a 10-year initiative to preserve HMS Victory, the world’s oldest commissioned naval ship, the project involves extensive timber replacement, stabilisation, and rigging work. The NMRN faced the challenge of storing large volumes of materials within the confines of a Grade 2 listed structure, necessitating innovative storage solutions.

Customised Storage Solutions

After a detailed public procurement process, Total Interiors Direct was selected for our exceptional attention to detail, proactive approach, and professional service. We designed and installed tailored Cantilever Racking systems, enhancing storage capacity for timber, and rigging materials, and facilitated the efficient use of the Combilift C4000 supplied by Translift Bendi Ltd. This collaboration has significantly improved the museum’s storage capabilities.

Positive Feedback and Outcomes

Stuart Sheldon, Lead Rigger at The National Museum, highlighted the significant impact of the solution, stating, “To rationalise the storage of our timber stocks and rigging elements, we have [now] freed up over 500 square metres of floor space enabling us to better utilise the space for storage of materials, museum collection items and create space for additional works to be undertaken.”

Conclusion

This partnership underscores our expertise in delivering custom storage solutions for complex storage projects. The improved capacity enables the NMRN to advance its preservation efforts for HMS Victory, optimising valuable museum space.
