Get ready for the highlight of the summer – 10th July may seem far off, but in reality the UKWA Awards are just around the corner! Among the glitz and glamour of this industry extravaganza is the prestigious Chairman’s Award, celebrating a lifetime of excellence in warehousing. Last year, the spotlight shone on Peter and Jayne Masters: a popular choice, this dynamic duo stole the show, jointly winning the Chairman’s Award in 2023.

Accordingly, I simply had to include their family business, Miniclipper Logistics, in my epic tour of 80 warehouses. Established over 50 years ago and located strategically in the Home Counties, they boast 600,000 square feet of warehousing space and a workforce of well over 200 people. Even though Jayne has now retired, her passion for the business still burns bright, evident in her return to stand alongside Peter, their daughter Beth, son-in-law Matthew and the rest of the team for our visit.

From investing in rooftop solar power to championing employee initiatives, Miniclipper exemplifies warehousing at its finest. Their recent growth into Burton-Upon-Trent and the redevelopment of the Leighton Buzzard site have now created space for 50,000 pallets across five sites. Despite the challenges of securing planning permission and navigating a sloping terrain, Miniclipper executed the site expansion project at Leighton Buzzard flawlessly, ensuring minimal disruption to their customers, some of whom have been clients for decades.

Since 2024 The Year of Warehousing is a General Election year, it provides an unmissable opportunity to open our doors to parliamentarians, so we were honoured to be joined by Andrew Selous MP, who has held the South West Bedfordshire seat since 2001. Before entering politics, Andrew himself served in the Selous family firm – an electronics company – and was delighted to make this return visit to Miniclipper.

Commenting on the site tour, Andrew Selous MP, said “It was a great pleasure to visit Miniclipper again, and I’m extremely proud of their tremendous growth story across Leighton Buzzard, Dunstable and Houghton Regis. Warehousing and logistics is an extremely important sector locally and nationally it employs over 8% of the UK workforce. Miniclipper is a brilliant family-owned business which we are fortunate to have in our area.”

I agree with this assessment: Miniclipper Logistics is a true gem and a valued member of UKWA. Let’s look forward to witnessing more inspirational winners like Peter and Jayne, at this year’s UKWA Awards!
