Strong growth in shipments of 4-5% is forecast for the global forklift market up to 2032, with greater competition driven by emerging technologies and rising global demand for logistics. Technology has the power to reshape the landscape of warehouse operations by using cutting-edge Operator Assist Systems (OAS) to enhance operator performance and mitigate the risk of accidents occurring by reinforcing best practices and increasing reaction time. While some may be familiar with systems that consider load stability to provide a visual alert, a more advanced OAS delivers real value by going several steps further. A solution like Yale Reliant™ also leverages information related to the operating environment, including precise, real-time location and proximity data to enable automatic performance adjustments for a range of scenarios tailored to warehouse operations.

When important capital equipment such as a forklift is out of action, it ceases to be an asset and becomes a cost, so naturally, the sooner it is back up and running the better, which is just one of the many ways the Ecobat Battery’s Industrial Division can benefit businesses in the materials handling industry. In addition to being the country’s largest battery distributor, it stands apart from the competition due to its team of experienced service engineers and a 13 branch network stretching from Glasgow down to Fareham and from Witham in the east across to Crumlin, in the west.

The 500,000th forklift from the factory producing Hyster® lift trucks in Northern Ireland, has been donated to a local branch of FareShare, the UK’s longest running food redistribution charity. Representatives from FareShare, based in Mallusk, visited the Craigavon plant on 6th March 2024 to receive the handover of the new truck – a Hyster J1.6XNT three-wheel electric lift truck. Stewart Murdoch – Senior Vice President, Managing Director, EMEA and Darren Johnston, Craigavon Plant Manager for Hyster Europe presented the truck, which features a panel containing the name of every current employee at the manufacturing plant, to Roisin Colohan, Operations Manager, representing FareShare.

Mentor Training, the UK’s leading provider of workplace transport and safety management training, has launched a forklift safety survey designed to help identify the real risks facing companies operating MHE today. Despite stringent Health & Safety legislation, the UK witnesses around 1300 serious injuries each year resulting from accidents involving lift trucks, most of which are entirely avoidable. Mentor aims to gather data from real companies within the wider industry and to identify the latest trends and areas of focus.

It’s exciting to witness the growth of the forklift sector, helping to keep goods flowing around the warehouse.
