Dale Paterson, Managing Director at Exporta speaks to Warehouse & Logistics News.

What does your role involve on a day-to-day basis?

On a day-to-day basis my role involves supporting team leaders across the business with a particular focus on Sales and Marketing. I work closely on the future direction of Exporta to enable ongoing and sustainable growth.

How would you explain the Exporta Culture?

We’re a family orientated business with a culture of transparency and honesty. There are no hidden agendas, we’re all working together for the common goal of helping our customers, which in turn helps all our people.

How does this culture assist your clients’ requirements?

This culture assists our clients because we work as a team for them. Nobody at Exporta is distracted by any internal politics. Our focus is simply on providing our customers with the right solution in a very quick and efficient manner.

Do you have direct contact with customers, and get involved developing solutions?

I love spending time out in the field on our client’s premises, listening to and being part of a team finding solutions, as much as time permits. I think our customers really appreciate having myself, or any of our team, visit, to ensure we really understand the solution they require.

Tell us how Exporta are growing in the UK.

As a business we have experienced sustained growth every year for the past 20 years. We’ve always ensured our product range is cutting edge. By innovating we make sure our customers have access to the most up to date products and services, this helps us grow alongside them. Sustainability is key in this industry and our focus on it, particularly our carbon neutral status, has also driven growth.

What makes Exporta unique in your industry?

I’d say our attention to detail in finding the right product, from a wide range of factories and moulds globally that are available to us and therefore to our customers. We’re not limited to a certain set of products; we can provide tailored solutions and our customers appreciate that.

What solutions do you offer customers?

Simply, we offer improvements, efficiencies, and cost savings in the logistics part of their operation in a sustainable manner.

What sectors do these clients work in?

We see our products used in a wide variety of industries. Specifically, we’re seeing a lot of growth in the retail, food, pharmaceutical and automotive industries. We’ve recently provided some very exciting solutions to large retail businesses, and we only see this type of product need increasing.

How can your solutions help?

Our solutions help to drive down costs in distribution making our customers more profitable and competitive in their marketplaces. We often talk about Exporta as an extension of our customers team, and we really believe in this.

How future proof and flexible are your solutions?

Our strapline is, ‘Innovative Solutions for an Evolving Industry’. I think that really sums up what we’re trying to do at Exporta. We recognise we are in an evolving industry and our team spend time travelling and researching to keep up with new ideas and trends. We do the research so our customers don’t have to.

What new services/solutions are you offering for 2024?

We’re growing our rental offering to cover a wider range of our products. We’re also introducing a product washing service. Beyond that, we’re always looking to increase our range of returnable plastic products, and this will of course continue in 2024.

What do you see as the biggest opportunities in the coming year for Exporta?

One area I see as an opportunity is to continue building on our relationships with Blue Chip and forward-thinking clients.

What are the biggest challenges facing Exporta and your industry?

You don’t have to look hard to see news about current global events and political unrest and the strain it continues to put on supply chains. As a team we work on alternative solutions and back-ups in order to keep our customers supplied with the goods they need.

Tell us about a recent project Exporta were involved with.

We’ve recently worked with a client to replace an expensive rental option with owned products, including product branding. This has provided our client with a huge ongoing cost saving and uniformity within their operation.

Do you cover the whole of the UK?

We cover every single corner of the UK and beyond. We can provide field sales representation and consultation anywhere. If you have a need for a solution within your business, we can come and see you.
