UKWA has announced that 2024 will be The Year of Warehousing and we have an exciting programme ahead, designed to put the sector firmly in the spotlight and achieve the recognition we deserve as critical to supply chains, to the UK economy and to the achievement of UK’s net zero goals.

The campaign marks the 80th anniversary of the Association’s inception in 1944, and accordingly I plan 80 site visits throughout the year to warehouses large and small across the UK, including 8 regional roadshows.

The idea is to showcase the high tech, fast-moving working environments inside UK’s warehouses, while raising public awareness of the sector. Unless they are one of the 1 million workers employed in our sector, people rarely see what happens inside often vast buildings, usually on industrial estates, where millions of products are processed every day. Our work has always been ‘behind the scenes’ and accordingly, to a large extent, it has been undervalued in the past. However, as our role becomes increasingly central to everyday lives, it’s time to celebrate all the great work we do and for the warehousing sector to be better appreciated by government, media, and the public for its achievements.

2024 The Year of Warehousing campaign therefore will highlight the considerable social and economic benefits of warehousing, introduce exciting new initiatives, and step-up support for UKWA members.

Kicking off the programme this month, we will be introducing the industry’s first independently accredited Warehouse Manager CPC qualification, then in February we will be announcing the winner of our UKWA Year of Warehousing Bursary, which is open to logistics and supply chain management students. At our National Conference in March, we will unveil our latest UKWA property report, produced by Savills, and detailing the size and make up of the current UK warehousing landscape, as well as continuing our campaign for solar PV on warehouse rooftops – to help members, we will producing a new solar rooftop installation toolkit and will host another Solar Summit later in the year.

There will be additional events, including a Parliamentary Reception for UKWA members and supporters at the House of Commons in April and as part of our 80th year, we will be aiming to raise funds for 80 different local and regional charities.

This is just a foretaste of the busy year to come. Watch out for more details – we will be celebrating in style, talking more than ever about warehousing, driving up industry standards and engaging with our growing community. 2024 The Year of Warehousing is not just about UKWA and its members – it’s about everyone in warehousing.
