DB Schenker, a leading logistics and transportation company, sought to optimise their warehouse operations in Dublin. The primary objectives were operational segregation; to divide their existing space into two distinct areas due to new contracts awarded, and address concerns related to dust and temperature control.

Having previously worked with Westgate Global, a renowned provider of flexible warehouse segregation systems, DB Schenker once again instructed Westgate Global to provide a solution. Westgate Global recommended the implementation of Flexiwall, a tensioned fabric partition wall, to effectively segregate the warehouse and enable better control over temperature and the creation of separate areas for logistics operations.

Key features and benefits to this project included:

Operational efficiency: The installation of Flexiwall would enable DB Schenker to create two distinct operational areas, allowing logistics operations for new contracts and long-term storage to function independently. This segregation would streamline processes, improve workflow, and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Dust containment: By dividing the warehouse into two separate areas, the Flexiwall system would minimise the risk of dust contamination. This segregation would help preserve the integrity and cleanliness of stored goods, ensuring customer satisfaction.

Temperature control: The Flexiwall system would enable DB Schenker to create separate temperature-controlled areas within the warehouse, protecting them from the weather in colder months when external doors would be open for loading. Flexiwall provided enhanced control over the climate for employee comfort and improves the preservation of any temperature-sensitive goods.

Westgate Global collaborated closely with DB Schenker to understand their specific requirements, designed and manufactured the Flexiwall system components to fit the warehouse’s dimensions and requirements accurately. The system is engineered to be easily installed, allowing for minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

Westgate Global’s expert installation team carried out the installation process around existing racking and above an existing office and mezzanine, ensuring precise placement of the Flexiwall system. The system is easily installed in tight spaces, is lightweight and only takes up millimetres of floor space. The flexible panels were hung at roof level, tensioned, and securely fixed to the floor. Rigid foam seals were installed between purlins to provide airtight barriers between the segregated areas. There were four runs of Flexiwall totalling 87 linear metres x 10m high with two pedestrian access doors. Westgate Global also supplied and installed 76 linear metres of heavy duty angle to one side of the partition for additional protection from forklifts.

The modular nature of the Flexiwall system allows for easy customisation and future adaptability. If DB Schenker’s operational needs changed or if they required reconfiguration of the warehouse space, the Flexiwall system could be easily adjusted or expanded to accommodate those changes.

By partnering with Westgate Global and implementing their Flexiwall system, DB Schenker successfully addressed their warehouse challenges related to dust, temperature control, and operational segregation. As a result, DB Schenker experienced improved customer satisfaction, streamlined processes, and a more controlled and hygienic environment for stored goods and parcels.
