Warehousing continues to be one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK economy and the UK Warehousing Association (UKWA) is proud to be its representative trade body.

Clare Bottle
CEO at UKWA

During 2023, UKWA pursued its campaign to promote the benefits of solar power on warehouse rooftops, both to the industry and to government, following the publication of its landmark report the previous year.

UKWA CEO Clare Bottle, joined the Rooftop Subgroup of the government’s Solar Taskforce, representing the voice of the sector and the first UKWA Solar Showcase was held in September 2023, with the launch of new legal guidance for members considering solar rooftop systems, written by UKWA legal partner Weightmans and exclusive to members.

The Association has also been active throughout the year in engaging with government on topics such as Business Rates, labour and skills shortages, and Planning.

2024 will mark the 80th anniversary of the inception of UKWA. To celebrate this milestone, the Association will be rolling out ‘The Year of Warehousing’, a campaign to promote the sector, highlight the role of warehousing in the supply chain and its importance to the UK economy, while showcasing the many and diverse career opportunities on offer.

Taking the message to the regions, Clare Bottle will be travelling around the UK, visiting 80 warehouses across the year, from major operators to SMEs, building community, looking at the latest technology in action, and talking to warehouse operators about issues affecting the sector.

New Warehouse Management CPC

UKWA will be unveiling its new Warehouse Management CPC in 2024. Delivered by independent consultants and accredited by CILT, this valuable course is designed to provide a recognised qualification that supports employee development and is set to become an industry standard.

New Conditions of Contract

UKWA’s ‘gold standard’ Conditions of Contract, drawn up by honorary legal advisors Aaron & Partners, form a key benefit of UKWA membership. These legal terms of storage provide robust protection for members, have been tested and proven in court, and are recognised by many insurance companies. The latest updated version of this important asset will be available to members from 2024.

Networking events

In addition to well-established UKWA networking events – National Conference, Annual Lunch & Awards and House of Lords Luncheon, the Association will be hosting another Solar Showcase in 2024 and holding a special Parliamentary Reception for members. There is also a charity golf day and a series of regional roadshow events planned.

2024 is the Year of Warehousing. Join us and be part of the celebrations!
