The argument about digital transformation in the warehouse sector is over. Warehouse operators who don’t embrace digitalisation will risk competitive disadvantages in a sector where the most powerful players have already jumped on the digital train. Read this interview with Signify to learn how connected lighting can play a crucial role.

What is Interact, what makes it smart and how does it work?

Interact IoT Platform enables connected LED lighting systems and embedded sensor networks to deliver insights like lighting usage, energy optimisation, space management, to name a few, to allow users to optimise lighting operations remotely. Interact offers a flexible, cost-efficient, scalable system that meets unique needs and is easy to understand and operate. It is easy to take advantage of IoT technology to suit the needs of every facility.

What are the 3 main challenges faced by the Warehousing and Logistic Market, that the Interact System can help owners, tenants and warehousing companies, address?

Warehouses today face several challenges. The top three in my opinion are:

– Digitalisation: unable to have a widespread adoption of several overlapping cutting-edge technologies, including AI, robotics, data analytics, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

– Employee safety and well-being: the need to reduce or eliminate accidents and injuries, and to provide a productive and healthy working environment.

– Sustainability: the push to make operations “green,” with carbon neutrality as an important goal.

Enter scalable systems, connected lighting systems among them. Such systems let warehouse operators begin the digital transformation journey in a practical and fiscally viable manner, adding on solutions and capabilities whenever they’re needed. Connected lighting systems can serve as a foundation for adding and distributing digital capabilities throughout a facility. Even before leveraging the system’s native connectivity, managed LED-based lighting offers important advantages over conventional lighting to address the challenges listed above.

Can Interact be linked to other buildings energy management systems or other critical plant in the warehouse e.g. HVAC equipment?

An ecosystem approach is the most effective way to realise the full potential of a smart facility. Published APIs and an open systems approach allow you to integrate Interact with other service systems such as HVAC and emergency, as well as with building automation and control systems such as BACnet. By sharing data and commands, connected lighting can become a key component of your smart facility.

How do we manage security within our wireless & cloud base solutions?

Our internal and external development activities follow the Signify Security Development Lifecycle (SDL), which codifies industry accepted best practices. The major components of the SDL are security risk analysis and threat modelling, code analysis and review, and vulnerability management. We apply the SDL to all of our hardware products, systems, services, software, and cloud solutions. The SDL is certified according to IEC62443-4-1.
