What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

My personal role involves working very closely with operational and IT stakeholders on initiatives such as WMS/ERP upgrades, supply chain infrastructure improvements, automation, middleware integration and site relocations.

For me, it’s quite thrilling to see the benefits to an opportunity or challenge being fully realised, and enjoying with partners or project team members the success.

Who has inspired you most in your career?

I’ve been very fortunate over the years to have worked for some very good management executives. No one in particular stands out, but they all have certain characteristics, approaches, management styles and work ethics that I’ve respected and appreciated that have driven me to be a very motivated individual in those environments.

If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

How about a scanner? Similar to my professional role, it gathers information from various sources, analyses it, and integrates with software and other applications to provide effective solutions to optimise warehouse operations.

If you had your time again, what would you do different?

Early in my management career I’d like to have dealt better with stressful situations, where my behaviour impacted teammates. However, I do feel you have to experience these situations, to learn from them as I did.

What’s your favourite pastime?

Cycling my roadbike and walking the dogs.

Do you play a sport, follow a sport or support a team?

I mostly enjoy Football (US and UK), F1 and Rugby Union, but I wouldn’t say I have an allegiance to any sport or a team.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened in your career?

Dropping a pallet at height when I was a young fork lift driver.

Do you have any hidden talents?

NO!

Who would be your favourite party guest?

Michael Hutchence.

What is the greatest luxury in your life?

An orthopaedic massaging bed.

If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

Take care of my family and key friends, then travel the world before building the house of my dreams.

Who or what makes you laugh?

Good old banter and ribbing with friends or colleagues.

I spent many years in football changing rooms, where you need to give as good as you get! These are special environments, where great friendships are formed!

What’s your dream holiday?

Turkey / Antalya.

What’s your favourite music album?

INXS / Kick.

What’s your favourite movie or Netflix series?

Afterlife or Breaking Bad.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?

It helps to be a good communicator at all levels, but also listen and show some empathy when trying to understand the source of the problem. If the scenario allows it, try to experience the problem, walk the warehouse floor, so to speak, as this will help earn some mutual respect from the teams or individuals impacted.
