There is a lot to consider when designing a safe and efficient loading bay as circumstances and environments in which docks are used are very diverse and bespoke to every facility.

The loading dock is a crucial area on site where a business or logistics operator receives and dispatches goods, so a good loading dock design is pivotal in achieving loading safety and efficiency.

This recent project by BID Loading Bay Equipment, was to replace original manual dock levellers with new, innovative dual swing lip levellers. Designed for heavy-duty use, they feature a 6000kg safe working load. Luke Henshaw Technical Manager at BID Group added: ‘The leveller’s were designed, manufactured, delivered to site and fitted within six weeks of date of order. Our experienced loading bay engineers installed the levellers using suspended mounts and longer legs due to rear weights and deeper pit than floor height. New control panels were fitted and new motors which were mounted on the same side as the panels. This dock leveller is perfect for the customers’ undercover dual shutter fronts plus its finished in black and orange to match the customer’s colour scheme.’
