A specialist logistics company has saved an estimated £50,000 in energy costs thanks to a bespoke charging solution for its new 26-strong fleet of materials handling trucks. For more than a decade, energy management specialist Hoppecke Industrial Batteries has helped to power vital equipment operated by TechnoCargo Logistics Ltd and now the relationship has been taken to the next level. Alongside the delivery of the new fleet, Hoppecke installed an upgraded version of its acclaimed MU changing system with an improved magnetic battery removal system.

Warehouse and logistics operators are investing in charging infrastructure to support the EV transition and establish more sustainable operations, says Joe Rowley, EVDirector of Flowbird UK, who provides advice on deploying workforce EV charge points. An increasing number of UK warehouse and logistics operators are deploying EV charge points on their estates. These distribution hubs with secure parking facilities are ideal locations for EV charge points, supporting workforces and fleet in their journey to go electric by providing reliable access to low-cost charging.

Ecobat Solutions UK Ltd has confirmed the opening of an on-site EV charging facility for staff and visitors – and the power for the chargers comes from an unexpected source. The Darlaston-based company employs over 85 staff in the UK alone. Its EV battery diagnosis and disassembly centre opened in January 2021 and has already repaired, re-engineered or recycled more than 5500 batteries, in partnership with vehicle and equipment manufacturers. Charging forklift trucks with solar power and optimising self-consumption is now possible with a new function in the Charge & Connect portal from Fronius Perfect Charging. PV Connect helps the user to operate their forklift fleet intelligently and sustainably. The new function allows users to use self-produced solar energy to charge forklift trucks.

Warehouse operators can take comfort from the fact that there are so many providers of power on the market, helping keep logistics moving.
