Managing Director

Craig De-Lara, Managing Director at QTS spoke to Warehouse & Logistics News.

What are your best-known products/solutions/services?

For a long time now, QTS has been best known for being the UK’s largest wire mesh deck manufacturer, before the successful launch of several other in-demand mesh-based products, including the rackGUARDIAN™ anti-collapse mesh system, storGUARD™ free-standing mesh partitions & cages and much more.

Which industry sectors are your customers in and which ones are growing fastest?

QTS remains one of the very few companies in our field that operate as a ‘trade-only’ supplier. Our trade partners range from some of the largest racking manufacturers to industry-leading integrators, distributors and installers, where our products find themselves in the warehouse, logistics and retail sectors.

What are your most recent product innovations?

It’s an exciting time right now for QTS, as innovation remains a key focus across our entire team(s). Following some minor investments, March saw the launch of the vertical pallet racking storage d-divider into our easyDIVIDER™ range, adding more products to our growing range of products and services to provide our trade partners with a one-stop shop for all their storage, safety and security needs.

Our Design Team are working on at least 5 new product concepts or existing product improvements at any one time, ensuring QTS is continually striving for better product offerings to its loyal and growing customers.

Can you tell us about any recent customer contracts and how you helped the customer meet their challenges?

As a design-led manufacturer, a large part of our existing services involves project-specific, engineered bespoke offerings to overcome a particular challenge.

Our manufacturing operation is currently running a large and particularly complex project that required a fireproof solution in a tight space, where the distance between an existing sprinkler system and racking beams is extremely limited. Our solution needed to provide a solid face above the sprinkler that straddled the racking beams while ensuring minimum to nil deflection.

Following a number of concept designs and samples that were sent for local testing, our projects and design team were able to provide a competitive solution that was accepted by our customers and entered into production.

This is one of many examples where QTS uses its innovative approach and manufacturing experience to design engineer a competitive solution that exceeded expectations.

How does business in 2023 compare to previous years? What’s your strategy for succeeding in the current climate?

Our business has grown year-on-year under some of the most challenging global conditions, each presenting new and complex hurdles. Like many businesses, we are continually monitoring trends in the marketplace, growing our existing offerings and diversifying to protect the interests of our customers and our business for the future.

We are a data-led and fast-paced, family-owned organisation, so our ability to act quickly and decisively has proven extremely beneficial in recent years.

What’s the latest news from your company?

It’s a really exciting time for QTS, as we started 2023 with some very clear business objectives, one of which was the formal expansion into Europe.

While QTS has supported customers in this territory for a number of years, in April 2023, we formally announce our move into Germany and Benelux with the founding of QTS GmbH and the appointment of Emina Tatarevic as Regional Account Manager – Germany and the promotion of Adam Carr into the role of Head of Business Development – UK, IRE & Benelux.

This news demonstrates our ambitions to continue our growth into Europe, providing greater local account management support, and flexibility as a trusted and experienced manufacturer of wire-mesh and fabricated solutions. This step will allow us to overcome economic challenges such as currency volatility and simplify business transactions.

Are you taking part in any major trade shows? Can you tell us what you’ll be exhibiting there?

As part of our European launch, QTS GmbH will be exhibiting at LogiMAT, Stuttgart, Germany, from April 25th – 27th, where our team will be on hand to discuss all wire-mesh and fabricated storage, safety and security requirements with prospective trade customers from the continent.

What are your plans to grow the business this year?

QTS has many exciting business objectives that are designed to continue our recent growth, these are at varying stages of development, but some have been in the making for 12-18 months.

Our leadership team has been working extremely hard with their respective teams to prepare for the launch of several key business objectives, which we would be delighted to share when possible.

While I can’t share particulars at this stage, what I can say is our plans for 2023 are very ambitious, and our end goal remains to be the number one partner of choice to our trade partners and the markets their serve.

What sets your company apart from the competition?

QTS has an extremely unique business and team culture. A togetherness where our team(s) are united on the common goal, which is to live by our business and employee core values. In turn, it will deliver the intended results throughout our organisation.

As such, what really set us apart is an account management model that ensures our trade partners can benefit from the diversity and flexibility of a UK manufacturer that is continually seeking ways to improve its products and services, to add real value.
