‘We promote safe lifting, so we support GLAD’ is the rallying call of this year’s Global Lifting Awareness Day—#GLAD2023—on 13 July. The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) has revealed the mission statement as supporters unite in preparation for a day where manufacturers, suppliers, and end users share material that promotes safe and high quality load lifting. Ross Moloney, CEO at LEEA, said: “Lifting is a Cinderella industry and to change its image globally we need to raise awareness, hence #GLAD2023.” Moloney has invited stakeholders to show support in two simple ways: participate on social media; and hold events that serve as hubs from which the concept can grow in future years.

When handling the blanks and components at the workstations at Heimann GmbH & Co, a company which manufactures high-quality steel structures, several crane systems from the Demag KBK modular crane system make work much easier and at the same time create the conditions for an efficient flow of materials. Two KBK monorails with a track length of 12 and 29 m ensure efficient point-to-point handling. Power is supplied through the KBK II-R profile section via an integrated conductor line.

Pickerings Lifts’ Modernisation team carried out a lift modernisation for a national supermarket store. The supermarket had a disabled platform lift that wasn’t being used, and the store team agreed that the space would be better being utilised as a goods lifts to transport stock and pallets across the store. The Pickerings team took out the old lift and installed a new 1000kg Rhino goods lift, meaning that store staff could now move goods with confidence.

23 sports are catered for at Decathlon Sports Superstores across the country and all goods movements are handled using Edmolift model TT3000WS Lorry Loaders from Loading Bay Lifts. These versatile lifts are designed to be suitable for all manner of delivery vehicles from a Transit Van to an Articulated Lorry or Double Deck Trailer. The lift is safe to use with no special training or licence being required and nine roll cages can be off loaded in a single movement saving time for these extremely busy retail park stores.

Let’s hope that greater awareness of safe and high quality load lifting will be raised in future.
