It sounds like a contradiction in terms doesn’t it? How do you get a seriously huge building, up to 60 metres wide, any length you like, and 10 metres high (12 metres into the eaves), without any uprights getting in the way, all in a matter of weeks?

Midlands based Smart-Space provide a Maxi-Space solution that ticks those boxes. It’s proving popular for ease of installation, cost and build speed – with the likes of D B Schenker and Sertec having opted for them recently.

D B Schenker commissioned a Maxi-Space building in Tamworth, West Midlands, for a client’s storage use. The D B Schenker solution is 30m wide x 78m long x 6m high. It has a thermo inflatable roof which provides an element of warmth and a lot of light. Its insulated walls make it a sturdy, secure build, complete with pedestrian doors and a roller shutter door. “The guys stuck to every aspect of the schedule. They were on time and also able to be flexible according to our changing needs. The site crew were really helpful and we felt well supported – it was a very positive experience” explained Ahmed Lambat, Solutions Design Manager at D B Schenker.

The Maxi-Space proposition is flexible and means businesses can react to market forces as required without the need for long lead-times and the ability to see into the future. As the structure sits on concrete there are no foundations required, just a level concrete base (or concrete landing pads if the ground is tarmac). This negates the need for lengthy preparation work and avoids the need to go anywhere near underground services such as pipes or cables.

Under extreme time pressure, Sertec in Birmingham needed a storage solution that offered the width and height to accommodate its fleet of VNA trucks. It linked its Maxi-Space building to existing premises, allowing for expansion, new products and the introduction of additional assembly lines. “I did put the team under great pressure and challenged them very hard about the scope, delivery and timing of the project. I needn’t have worried as everything was managed exactly as promised” said Andy Cresswell, Group Facilities Manager. Many Maxi-Space buildings are designed to link to existing structures, taking advantage of the utilities already in place and providing an effective and instant extension.

Smart-Space’s Sales Director, Jason Lynock, is the company’s specialist adviser, dealing in large or unusual building requirements. “There are lots of options for the finish, roof style, heating and lighting so you can have exactly the building that serves your business” he says. “Maxi-Space buildings are incredible – if you have the space available, we can do the rest, from start to finish and very quickly.”
